As a busy family often on the go, having a tablet is a necessity to our homeschool. Plus, as someone with a chronic health condition and three special needs children, there are days that I just don’t know what we would do without it! There are definitely a variety of advantages of using a tablet in homeschooling.

Great for Young Learners
Tablets offer something for young learners that other resources may not – ease of use. Children as young as 3 can start to use educational apps with ease. Touching a screen is much easier than navigating on the computer with keys and a mouse, which allows for independent time for young learners. It helps to build confidence while they are learning as well!
Portability
Tablets are easily portable. We found this portability extremely helpful while we were homeschooling during a move. Additionally, this portability is great for outings including long car rides, doctor and therapy appointments, etc.
Accessibility
There are a wide variety of educational apps available! We have reviewed a variety of educational apps and homeschool resources. Many homeschool resources offer an app to correspond with their curricula. Whether you have preschoolers or teenagers, there are a number or great educational apps!
Organization
Do you need a little help keeping your homeschool organized? There are apps available for your tablet for organization as well! One of my personal favorites is Homeschool Helper, which is absolutely amazing for keeping everything organized. Make notes of subjects, lessons, field trips, students, and more. Did you take an unexpected day off? No problem! Just bump everything down a day!
Another favorite is Evernote. I use this for keeping track of log-in information, curricula lists, and more. I love that I can make checklists, take voice notes, add pictures, etc. See an example of how I use Evernote for homeschooling.
Responsibility
Owning a tablet is a responsibility. It’s important to take care of our tablets properly so they don’t get broken. This helps kids learn responsibility. They may still make mistakes, but that offers the opportunity for me to remind them to be more careful.
