6 Tips for an Epic Cedar Point Family Adventure

September 4, 2016 by Emilee Evans

Are you ready for a Cedar Point family adventure? We had the opportunity to visit Cedar Point a few times this summer, but recently we visited together as a family – all 5 of us! Pulling off an epic Cedar Point family adventure can be a little challenging when you have kids of various ages and interests, but with a little planning (and sticking to it), it’s totally possible!
I picked up a few ideas from our Cedar Point family visit last year, and things definitely went more smoothly this year. Here are my Top 6 Tips for an Epic Cedar Point Family Adventure that will help ensure everyone will leave with a big smile on their face!
6 Tips for an Epic Cedar Point Family Adventure
Disclosure: We received complimentary general admission tickets to facilitate our review. Regardless, all opinions are my own and those of my family.

1. Plan Ahead

There are a wealth of resources on the Cedar Point website to help you plan your epic adventure. I admit, I’m not a planner. I like to have a general idea of what we’ll be doing, but it doesn’t go much beyond that. When you are visiting Cedar Point with kids of multiple ages and interests, though, planning ahead is absolutely necessary. How tall are they? What kinds of rides do they like?
What we did is made a game plan based on this information. Our oldest is now able to ride all of the rides based on his height (but I wasn’t sure he was ready for all of them!), so we made a plan. My husband would rather not ride the bigger roller coasters due to his neuropathy, so the plan was simple – Brayden and I would ride these big coasters while Joey and the other two kids would visit the arcade or go on a smaller ride.
Certain rides my husband would ride with our older two kids, and I would stay with our youngest for a smaller ride – or just to take a few selfies on Snap Chat! Whatever is fun, right? Ha! Whatever works for your family, it’s ideal to plan it in advance so there won’t be confusion and delays when you’re there. You can make the most of your time!
Our daughter was now tall enough to ride some of the bigger rides, so that was definitely exciting – and a “must do” for our plan!

If you ask my husband, though, he will tell you the best experience ever was getting to be a tester for the virtual reality on Iron Dragon. He still talks about it!

2. Take a Bag (or Wagon)

One of the biggest mistakes you could make it not having a few things on hand. Taking a bag (or a wagon if you have younger kids) is a must. Be sure to have necessities like sunscreen, a change of clothes (particularly for younger children), a small first aid kit, towel (even if you don’t go on the rides that get you wet, it can still be handy to have a towel), water bottles, and kids’ comfort items.
If you have a plan in place for some people riding rides while others are doing something else, you won’t necessarily need a locker for your bag. There are lockers available, though, for a fee, so if it’s better to keep it in a locker that is always an option, too!
It’s also a good idea to take jackets. Even if the weather is nice (or even hot) during the day, it can get cooler at night – especially closer to the beach. It’s better to have jackets and not need them than not having them and needing them!

3. Check Out Additional Activities

There are many great activities for kids at Cedar Point. There are fun opportunities to meet the Peanuts Crew as well as watch them perform! In Frontier Town there are animals to pet and feed, mining and sifting fun, shows to watch, and a museum! Of course, there are also games to play throughout the park!
Do your kids like dinosaurs? You definitely will want to check out Dinosaurs Alive! Not only can you walk through and see life-sized dinosaurs (and learn a lot about them), but it’s also interactive. The kids can make some of the dinosaurs move, and there is a fun area to dig for fossils! Dinosaurs Alive! does require a separate admission.

4. Get a Souvenir Cup

Water bottles are great. They help ensure you’ll stay hydrated, but what about when you (or the kids) want something different to drink? There are a variety of drinks available from sodas to Powerade in multiple flavors. Instead of paying around $5 every time you get a drink, it’s ideal to just get a souvenir cup so you can get free refills all day. If you know you’ll be visiting a few times throughout the summer, there is also a souvenir cup for free refills for the whole year! It seems like a lot, but after doing the math, I discovered we saved quite a bit of money overall!

5. Plan Your Meals

Will you be eating there? Are you bringing a picnic lunch? Whether you’re buying food or going back to the car for a packed lunch, it’s good to know the when and where. If you’re going to choose food within the park, be sure to check out the Drinking and Dining Deals first to see how you can save. Set a specific meal (or snack) time and plan to relax or attend some of the shows while eating and letting food settle!

6. Take Advantage of Cedar Point Family Resources

Be sure to take advantage of the great resources for families for a safe and fun trip. Some of the resources include the Family Care Centers (particularly helpful if you are nursing and/or have little ones), Parent Swap (so one parent can ride while the other waits for the kids and swap out so the other can ride), KidTrack to help reunite parents and lost children.

8 Reasons You Must go to Cedar Point Nights

August 2, 2016 by Emilee Evans

Can you believe it’s August already? Where did the time go? As summer is winding down, so is the amazing opportunity to visit Cedar Point Nights. Through August 14, 2016, fun has no curfew at Cedar Point! There are so many great things to see and do when you visit Cedar Point Nights that it is a “must do” this summer! Here are just 8 reasons you must visit Cedar Point Nights.
8 Reasons You Must Visit Cedar Point Nights
Disclosure: As a Cedar Point Blogger I received complimentary tickets to facilitate my visit to share my experience. Regardless, all opinions are my own and those of my family.

1. More Time for Fun

During Cedar Point Nights you get to enjoy the park during extended hours. It doesn’t close until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays! Prefer the weekdays? It’s open until 11PM! That means more time to enjoy the rides, attractions, food, shops, etc. plus all the extra fun going on specifically during Cedar Point Nights!

2. Games on the Beach

Do you love a fun game of corn hole? Head on out to the beach between 5:30PM and 9:30PM to have some fun at Beach Blast! Games are free, and there are even staff members that will fill in to make your game complete! We played quite a few rounds and had a blast! The sand feels amazing on your feet after walking around for most of the day!

3. Delicious Food

Not only can you enjoy some fun games on the beach, but there is delicious food as well! If you love brats or burgers straight off the grill, you won’t want to miss it! The price is reasonable, and the brats are delicious! Plus, there is nothing quite like kicking back on the beach for a bite to eat!

4. Live Music

As if games and good food isn’t enough, there is also live music! Toes in the Sand Band performs some fun cover songs Tuesday through Saturday. Or you can enjoy a live DJ on Mondays!
Cedar Point Live Band

5. Movies on the Beach

Tuesday through Sunday at dusk, you can enjoy a movie right on the beach! Each evening is a completely different movie! Be sure to check the calendar to be sure to catch the movie you love!

6. Beach Glow Party

After dark, even more fun begins! I seriously could barely take it all in! There is an amazing DJ, and you can’t help but dance! Plus, there are glow-in-the-dark beach games and amazing glow-in-the-dark inflatable sculptures! If that alone isn’t enough fun, there are some amazing (and I think very brave!) fire stunts performers. I was in awe!
Visit Cedar Point Nights Beach Glow Party

7. Fireworks

If you have never watched fireworks at Cedar Point, you are missing out! Although not as big as their Independence Day fireworks, they were still amazing. It’s seriously beautiful watching fireworks on the beach next to the rides with stunning lights. Plus, on a hot day like the day we were there, you have to love that cool breeze coming off the lake!

8. Riding Coasters at Night

Riding the Cedar Point roller coasters at night is definitely something you must do at least once. Many of them have amazing lights at night, and it is really a completely different experience. Raptor is always one of my favorites, and once it’s dark the lines are not only shorter, but those twists and turns are more exciting. You can’t see them coming! It’s so much fun! Rougarou has some of the best effects like steam coming off the water. It’s definitely neat!

Visit Cedar Point Nights

Cedar Point Nights is definitely something you don’t want to miss. It’s the amazing experience that Cedar Point already is but with so much more! So be sure to plan your visit before August 14, 2016 to enjoy this amazing event!
Have you ridden the Valravn? It’s such a neat experience! What is your favorite ride? Have you ridden it at night?

Family Fun at Cedar Point and Hotel Breakers

June 3, 2015 by Emilee Evans

Summer is here! Can you believe it? If you’re looking for family fun this summer it’s definitely a great time to visit Cedar Point and stay in the newly renovated Hotel Breakers! I was so excited to visit and share my fond memories and a great experience with our family! We definitely had family fun at Cedar Point and Hotel Breakers!
Family Fun at Cedar Point and Hotel Breakers
Disclosure: As a Cedar Point Blogger, I received a complimentary stay and tickets for our family. Regardless, all opinions are my own and those of my family.
I grew up here in Northwest Ohio and would visit Cedar Point regularly. It was an amazing opportunity to take my family there for the first time (including my husband who is from Texas). It had been years since my last visit, and I was excited for the chance to ride my favorite roller coaster again as well as check out some of the newer ones including the newest one – Rougarou. Of course, I was just as excited to check out the updates to Hotel Breakers!

Renovated Hotel Breakers

Upon arriving we headed to our hotel. We opted to visit the park the following morning so we could take advantage of the great one-hour early entrance for hotel guests. Wow! Hotel Breakers looks fabulous! We were greeted by a beautifully decorated and colorful lobby. Carousel horses adorn the walls in beautiful art prints and there are great carousel horses decorating the lobby. As a mom, though, I most appreciated the colorful seats and kid area with kids’ shows playing. It made checking in much more pleasant as the kids were entertained!

After checking in we headed to our room, which was equally colorful. It’s decorated with great primary colors. It really does look fresh and updated. We had a basic room with 2 Queen beds. Each bed had a generous number of pillows. It had a mini-fridge, microwave, dresser, desk, TV, a chair for lounging and more! The bathroom contained great toiletries and had lots of extra hooks in the tub which proved to be great for our bathing suits!

Shortly after getting settled we decide to explore! There is a great patio area by the beach that is gorgeous! The fire pits are amazing! It was perfect because it was a little cooler outside. We visited the week before Memorial Day, so the outdoor pools were closed, but they were working hard to get them ready for the next week, and they looked great! We did walk in the beach a little and watch sand sculptors making a sculpture of the hotel!

Then it was time to explore indoors! We had a lot of fun playing in the indoor pool, and my husband and I took turns using the hot tub. It was so relaxing! It was a great size and depth for the kids at 3ft! Next to the hotel is a fun little arcade! We had a blast there, and two of our kids win Pomemon plush toys from the claw machine, so they were extremely thrilled! There are a variety of restaurants and a fitness center as well!

We definitely enjoyed our stay at Hotel Breakers! It looks beautiful, has many great amenities, has comfortable beds, and the early entrance to the park is an awesome bonus!

Cedar Point

The next morning we ate breakfast at Perkins in Hotel Breakers and we’re excited for our early admission. We started in one of the kid areas and felt like we were the only ones there! It was pretty awesome! It was a great way to get the kids warmed up for the day! Having kids there was a totally different experience, but I was thrilled by all the things they could do! Even our 5 year old was able to ride a variety of rides (if he wanted to, of course)!
Rides for Kids at Cedar Point
The kids got to spend some time with Snoopy and friends and see some dinosaurs, which our 5 year old particularly loved! Of course, as a homeschooling mom, I also appreciated the Town Hall Museum, and we spent some time in there learning a few things, too! So we had fun and learned a lot! It was great! There is also a great arcade full of amazing old school games – like this giant pinball machine with a cue ball!
Cedar Point Arcade
Because I am more of roller coaster person than my husband, I opted to go on the big coasters while he stayed with the kids. He likes them, but doesn’t LOVE them like I do. Our 9 year old did go on the Blue Streak with me, which was really neat! It was one of my first roller coasters as well! Then I had to ride my favorite, the Raptor, which definitely is still my favorite! I love it! I had to check out the Rougarou as well, which I realized I had ridden years ago as the standup roller coaster the Mantis. I’m loving the updates, though! The new colors are great, and the floorless cars definitely make it a new ride! It’s fun!
We even got a glimpse of the big rides from our gorgeous room view!
Hotel Breakers Room View

Parent tip: If possible, I would recommend taking along an extra adult or even planning your trip with another family so little ones can have supervision while you and your spouse can ride the big coasters together. We tried this but were unable to have someone meet us up there that day unfortunately. I would also recommend taking a wagon. It was a bit chilly that day,  so I was carrying jackets at random times, and our youngest wanted to be held a lot. It would have been perfect to have a wagon for holding the extras as well as tired kids! Of course, don’t forget the sunblock!

Overall, we had an amazing time at Cedar Point! I think it’s great fun for the whole family! There was so much for the kids to do and learn! It is definitely a well-rounded experience for the whole family! We can’t wait to go back!

Get Ready for Summer with Cedar Point!

April 28, 2015 by Emilee Evans

Now that the kids are a little older (I can’t believe our “baby” just turned 5!), we are definitely excited to venture out into new adventures. Even though we homeschool year round, we like to take a few breaks during the summer, and now that we live in Ohio where I grew up a day (or a few!) at Cedar Point is definitely a must! I have so many great memories from visiting Cedar Point regularly, and I cannot wait to share it with my family!
Cedar Point Wicked Twister Midway
Disclosure: This is not a sponsored post, though I am sharing the information in conjunction with my partnership as a Cedar Point Blogger.
We are super excited for our upcoming visit to Cedar Point in a few weeks! Not only do I get to share some amazing memories with my family, but we get to make some new great memories! I am personally looking forward to trying the newest ride, the Rougarou, and checking out the newly renovated Hotel Breakers!
That’s right! 2015 will mark the debut of the newly-renovated Hotel Breakers. After a two-year transformation, the ultimate resort destination located along the mile-long Cedar Point Beach is ready for debut. Along with a new exterior, the modernized hotel will feature a new entrance portal, classic interior finishes, newly-furnished and remodeled rooms with LCD TV’s, new furniture, bedding and décor, and many other amenities and offerings. There are also additional enhancements which include a new Starbucks and the Surf Lounge bar inside the famous rotunda, widened exterior green space with panoramic views of Lake Erie and an outdoor water play area with zero depth entry and splash features.
Can I just express how excited I am? I stayed at Hotel Breakers many years ago and also have great memories of this great hotel, and I can’t wait to check out the renovations!
Hotel Breakers
I love the vision behind the renovations!

“We want to provide a well-rounded and complete vacation experience for our guests, and the enhancements at the Hotel Breakers will help them have just that,” said Jason McClure. “It will have a fun and fresh feel, is steps away from the park and it’s a great place to start new family traditions.”

We plan to do just that!
Other amenities at Hotel Breakers include two pools and Jacuzzis, access to the Cedar Point Beach and Boardwalk, a gift shop, arcade, exercise room, three restaurants, Early Entry (access to some of the biggest rides and coasters before the park opens to the general public), discounted Cedar Point admission tickets, complimentary Wi-Fi and the comfort and convenience of staying right next to the rides and roller coasters of Cedar Point. Reservations for the 2015 season can be placed now online at cedarpoint.com/hotelbreakers or by phone at (419) 627-2106.
Hotel Breakers Fire Pit
We are ready! Be sure to check back in a few weeks to see what we thought of the Hotel Breakers renovations as well as the new ride and our whole family experience at Cedar Point!
What do you have planned this summer? Any trips to Cedar Point?
