BottleHood Repurposed Necklace Review

July 8, 2013 by Emilee Evans

Thank-you BottleHood for sending me a necklace free of charge to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

BottleHood

BottleHood recycles bottles from restaurants, bars, homes and events in the community and turns them into glassware/bar-ware and jewelry. Their eco-friendly glass and recycled wood products are created out of a passion to generate local jobs, stimulate their local retail economy and help our environment. The success of BottleHood is a reflection of neighborhood sentiment and support for what they stand for – pride in their neighborhood, their local craftsmen and entrepreneurs, and their social responsibility. They also use a cold method rather than the hot method that releases toxins into the air. I really love that BottleHood is so innovative and genuinely cares for the environment.

For my review I received a necklace repurposed from the neck of a Stone IPA bottle. Stone is one of the largest craft beer breweries in the United States and it is based out of Escondido, California. The necklace is wrapped in black hemp and fastened with a wood bead. Their jewelry pieces are not mass produced, so you know you will get a product that is eco-friendly as well as unique!
The first thing I noticed about the necklace is how smooth it was! One of my concerns with the glass was that it might not be smooth, but it was definitely smooth with no sharp points or even ridges. I admit I examined it for quite a while trying to figure out how they made it using the neck of a beer bottle! It is amazing to me how they turned it into such a unique piece of jewelry! The hemp is sturdy and goes nicely with the brown glass. The bead fastener is easy to use even for someone like me who has trouble with fasteners that use fine-motor skills. The necklace is much lighter than I expected and it really coordinates with many different outfits. I really like that I now have this unique piece of jewelry that isn’t only stylish and unique but was made with such care and with our environment in mind!

Their stuff is made by the cold process which leaves a much smaller carbon footprint than the hot working process. Love this site!! Novel idea
