The Boxcar Children DVD Review
I grew up reading The Boxcar Children series. I owned and read each one! So when I had the opportunity to review The Boxcar Children DVD (Collector’s Addition), I was SO excited! Our children are still young (ages 4, 6 and 8), so although I plan to share the books with them, they aren’t yet ready to read books on their own – especially of that level. This DVD, though, was something I could definitely share with them! I couldn’t wait to see it myself as well!
If you’re unfamiliar with The Boxcar Children, it’s the story of four children who have become orphans and are homeless. On a particularly stormy day, they realized the need to find a place to live and found an abandoned boxcar. They used a lot of creativity to make the boxcar their home. I don’t want to spoil all the details, though! 😉
It features an all-star cast of voice actors including Academy Award® Nominee Martin Sheen (“Apocalypse Now”), J.K. Simmons (“Spiderman”), Zach Gordon (“Diary of a Wimpy Kid”), Joey King (“Fargo”), Mackenzie Foy (“Twilight”), and Jadon Sand (“LEGO: The Movie”).
This DVD has animation that is bright and eye-catching. It wraps up the whole story in 81 minutes, which is ideal for young children. Our children easily sat through it, and they have, in fact, watched it multiple times. They ask to watch it almost every day! I have to admit, I was excited that they enjoy it so much! It is one of those movies that they will sit and watch and be totally focused on it.
My husband, who never experienced The Boxcar Children before, also really enjoyed it. It’s one of those movies we don’t mind if the kids watch it multiple times. It is cute, interesting, and is really a nice movie we can enjoy as a family!
The Boxcar Children DVD (Collector’s Edition) can be purchased at Walmart.

Oh this sounds so wonderful!! I loved reading The Boxcar Children when I was growing up. Keira is 12 and started reading them earlier this summer. I’m thinking of reading them again. I definitely need this movie!

I still have the complete set of Boxcar children that I read to my daughter. I will soon be reading it to my grandaughters. I would love to have the movie as a teaching tool to compare what they thought everything looked like compared to the movie. The thrill of imagination or an author’s descriptive powers. Did you know that there is a early reader version of the Boxcar Children?

No, I didn’t know that! Thank-you! I will look into it!

I remember my 6th grade teacher reading us the complete series everyday after lunch. So glad there is a movie now. I want to watch with the grandkids.
