Making a Holiday Splash at Schlitterbahn Galveston

December 19, 2014 by Emilee Evans

Christmas is right around the corner. With all the hustle and bustle it’s a great time to take a day to relax and have fun with the family! Start a new holiday tradition with Schlitterbahn!
Disclosure: I received complimentary tickets to facilitate my review. Regardless, all opinions are my own and those of my family.

Schlitterbahn Galveston

Schlitterbahn Galveston is a short drive from Houston and offers a fun way to celebrate the holidays with the family! Enjoy festive Christmas music, beautiful trees and decorations, and even surf with Santa! The best part is, most of it is indoors and heated which means you get to enjoy some of the great waterpark attractions while staying comfortable! There is nothing like saying you had fun at a waterpark in the winter!
Schlitterbahn Galveston Decorations
I love how Schlitterbahn creates a festive atmosphere for the holidays. The decorations were gorgeous and even included ornaments made by children at the park! One of the things we loved the most was the “snow.” Snow in Texas! We were greeted by snow at the entrance, and even got snowed on while floating down Torrent River!

One of our highlights was definitely the Boogie Bahn. Our older two children both decided it was something they must do. I’m a bit of a worrier, so I was a little nervous. The staff was extremely helpful, though, and they not only gave them detailed instructions but were also there to help if needed. They did great and has a lot of fun!

Of course, we had to also go back to Surf with Santa at the Boogie Bahn when he was there. First he put on an amazing performance.

Then, it was time for the kids to Surf with Santa! He took each child out for a good amount of time! It was so much fun!

Our preschooler particularly enjoyed the Wasserfest Kids Area. It has warm shallow water and a Pirate ship to play on with slides. There is even a big frog with a tongue slide! This is a great area for the younger kids, but even our daughter and oldest son (ages almost 7 and 8) enjoyed it, too!
It’s a great area to take a break for lunch as well. There are many picnic tables available as well as lounge chairs to just sit back and relax while the kids play.

There is one big fun ride that is open during the winter season called the Guada Loopy and Loopy Luge, which we enjoyed a few times! We went on a Sunday so it was less crowded, which we discovered has one down side – there are no lines for the ride so you don’t have a chance to catch your breath when you go up the stairs! Ha! They are so much fun!

Of course, you have to take a ride down the Torrent River! Simply sit back and enjoy the huge waves!
Schlitterbahn Galveston Torrent River
If you have a younger child that doesn’t like the waves like our little guy, there are two play areas for younger children with slides. This was great for letting him play and switching out to take turns going down the Torrent River. I’m pretty sure he went down those slides close to 100 times! He loved it!
Schlitterbahn Galveston Kids
Our fun at Schlitterbahn lasted until well past lunch, and we did some shopping at the Gift Shop and then the kids went on the Holiday Bounce Houses outside on our way out!

Moody Gardens Ice Land

Schlitterbahn Galveston is conveniently located to other great family fun attractions at Moody Gardens. To round out our family fun weekend we went to Moody Gardens Ice Land, which is a spectacular display of ice sculptures of Sponge Bob and friends.
Moody Gardens Ice Land Quiz
Because we went on a Sunday, it was not at all crowded, and we basically walked right in! (If you have children with special needs like ours this is definitely ideal!) We went over some fun Trivia then stood in line for parkas for less than 10 minutes, got our picture taken, then went inside for the fun!
Moody Gardens Ice Land Intro
The details in the sculptures are absolutely amazing. Even the stairs were ice with the metal handles built into it. They also had things like the fun ice slides!
Moody Gardens Ice Land Slides
Of course, it was obviously cold at only 9 degrees, but you can see and do everything in a pretty short amount of time as it’s not very large. The kids even braved sitting in ice seats for a picture!
Moody Gardens Ice Land Sponge Bob
We really enjoyed looking at all the sculptures. It is just absolutely amazing detail! It was a great way to wrap up our fun family weekend!

Accommodations

If you are visiting from out of town or have a little further to drive, there are convenient accommodations at the Moody Gardens Hotel, which is within walking distance of both locations. It is a beautiful hotel with amazing amenities and you definitely can’t beat the location close to all the family fun! You can purchase a “Stay and Play” Package to include your Schlitterbahn tickets with your accommodations!
Moody Gardens Hotel
We’re moving up to Ohio this weekend, so this was also a great way to have fun with my mother in-law as well before we go! I know when we come back for our holiday visits, this will definitely be included in our holiday tradition!
Are you ready to start a new holiday tradition? Take a day off from the hustle and bustle and make a holiday splash at Schlitterbahn with your family!

Make a Holiday Splash at Schlitterbahn Galveston

December 2, 2014 by Emilee Evans

Holiday Splash
It’s not often you think of “making a splash” for the holidays, but just the idea of it sounds like fun, right? Right around now many families are busy and stressed and need some time together to have FUN!
Santa is inviting kids to a very different kind of holiday party – Holiday Splash at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island. During the park’s Holiday Splash, which takes place weekends and select dates from November 28, 2014 through January 4, 2015, Santa is giving surf lessons to kids on the Boogie Bahn. Kids can also make holiday ornaments, swim in an artificial snow storm, and enjoy a sprinkle of holiday cheer at the new Holiday Splash event at Schlitterbahn Indoor Waterpark on Galveston Island, Texas.
A snow storm on Galveston Island? Yes!

A skilled team of 31 internationally-acclaimed professional ice carvers from Harbin, China will dive into 900 tons of ice and transform them into majestic marvels featuring holiday scenes with the beloved Bikini Bottom inhabitants from Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants. Sounds like fun, right? Which part do you think your family would enjoy most?

Introducing Hard Rock Roxtars!

October 21, 2014 by Emilee Evans

Disclosure: The information, gift card, gift pack and giveaway have been provided to me by Hard Rock International. Regardless, all opinions are my own and those of my family. No celebrity or musician has endorsed the “Does Your Child Look Like a Rock Star” contest.
Have you heard the news? Hard Rock International has introduced a fun, hip new band of characters to help make little rock stars’ experience at Hard Rock Cafes® and Hard Rock Hotels® absolutely amazing!
HR Roxtars Logo
For my review I received a $50 gift card, t-shirts, and some awesome Roxtars swag. This is a package the kids and I were equally excited to receive! The Roxtars are so much fun and such a great idea to really enhance the experience for kids. Because of our kids’ special needs, they are very enthusiastic, and it can be hard finding a restaurant where we’re all comfortable and they can have FUN! The Hard Rock Roxtars? FUN!!
Hard Rock Roxtars

Learn More About the Hard Rock Roxtars

The Hard Rock Roxtars are each unapologetically original and designed to inspire kids of all ages to rock an inimitable brand of cool, allowing their originality to shine
· Band members include:
o Razzi™, “the motherly type” who is famous for squishy hugs and keyboard skills
o Sir Kingston™, a British-invasion inspired rock-and-roller on lead guitar
o Styler™, a free-spirited and accompanying guitar player
o Buddy Jr™, a wild man who loves nothing more than a good drum solo
o Skiddley™, the lead singer and “Mr. Cool” of the group

Our Visit to Hard Rock Cafe Houston

We made our way to Hard Rock Cafe Houston to see what the Roxtars are all about! We were greeted with amazing new kids’ menus. There was something all three kids love, which doesn’t always happen! Plus, the amazing activity book we received in our review pack? All three kids got one of the them just for being there! Move over paper and crayons! Each activity book included an additional sticker as well. Our daughter was SO excited to get a Styler sticker because she loves cats! The new menus are fun!
Hard Rock Cafe Review
The Hard Rock Cafe is a restaurant we can really enjoy as a family! In addition to the great kids’ menus and activity packs, it’s just a fun environment! The kids were a little loud as usual, and it didn’t matter! It is such a fun environment! Our waiter was really upbeat and fun to talk with, and we even got to sing “Happy Birthday” to a little girl in an Olaf costume! The kids had a blast!
The best part, though? They all loved and ate their food! My husband and I were the only ones who needed a to-go box! This is not very common! They were excited to see their food was in a guitar plate like the one we received in our review pack! According to the staff, the guitar plates have been a huge kit with the kiddos! I, personally, loved that the drinks are served in a glass with a plastic lid versus full plastic cups.
Hard Rock Cafe Roxtars
We had such a great time. My husband and I loved our food as well! We also signed up for Hard Rock Rewards for our return visits! On the way out we stopped by the shop. We couldn’t resist getting two more Roxtars so all three kids could have one of their favorites!

It's Time for the Wings Over Houston Airshow {Giveaway!!}

October 16, 2014 by Emilee Evans

It’s that time of year again for the Wings Over Houston airshow! We went last year and had a blast! Our kids were just a little excited that Dusty was there last year!
Houston Airshow Dusty
Disclosure: I received compensation in exchange for event coverage. Regardless, all opinions are my own.
This year’s Wings Over Houston Airshow will be another great event you don’t want to miss. This year’s show takes place November 1st and 2nd at Ellington Airport.
As a Disabled Veteran’s wife, I appreciate the military history presented at the Wings Over Houston Airshow. They features a variety of military air crafts. I love how much they focus on wanting to share the history of the military aircraft and honor the men and women who fought for our country. When I read their purpose, I appreciated it even more!

The Wings Over Houston Airshow not only offers the opportunity to learn more about and appreciate the military, but there are also many other educational opportunities as well! I’d venture to say it’s one HUGE educational opportunity. There are pilots to share more about their air crafts. Last year we even got to use flight simulators, which our oldest son absolutely loved!
Houston Airshow Flight School
Of course, we can’t forget the show! We were blown away by some of the stunts performed! Debbie Rihn-Harvey is one of the highest ranked aerobatics competitors in the United States, and I was in awe watching her perform. She was talking through the broadcast system while performing these wild stunts like it was no big deal! It was amazing! She’ll be back again this year, so you definitely don’t want to miss it! Check out this year’s amazing line-up of performers. View the full Schedule.
The Wings Over Houston Airshow is November 1-2, 2014 at Ellington Airport. Gates open at 8am both days.
