Opioid Dependence – Turn to Help

October 8, 2013 by Emilee Evans

Disclosure: I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Reckitt Benckiser Pharmaceuticals Inc. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
Opioid prescription painkiller addiction (also known as Opioid Dependence) affects millions of Americans. Although opioid prescription pain killers are effective medicines, some people develop opioid dependence as an unexpected consequent of their pain treatment.
I, unfortunately, am familiar with opioid dependence as I have two family members that have experienced/are experiencing it. It’s not something that you expect to happen. It just creeps up on people. I admit, even as a family member I didn’t realize it was a problem until it was to the point that it was very obvious. The need for the opioid prescription pain killers is to treat a specific problem. As someone with a chronic pain disorder I know what it is like to be told the pain is “all in your head,” so when a family member says they are suffering with pain, but the doctors are telling them they are not, at first it may be easy to believe your family member.
Although more awareness is being raised for opioid dependence it’s not something that is easy to assume. If a friend or family member starts taking opioid pain killers due to a surgery, injury, accident, etc., and after a while they say they are still in a lot of pain and need more help our instinct is to believe that they really are still hurting and need help. They DO need help, but not in the way we believe. They need help breaking free of this addiction they never expected would happen to them – that YOU never expected would happen to them!
Turntohelp.com is an online resource that allows people to anonymously research opioid dependence as well as find help and treatment options. It has a wealth of information from signs and symptoms to a locator to find local help. It even goes into detail explaining how dependence can begin. Dependence can happen to anyone.
There are many misconceptions about opioid dependence. For example, many don’t view it as a disease. Opioid Dependence is, in fact, a chronic medical disease. It actually tricks the brain into believing the opioid is necessary to survival! Many are afraid to get treatment, though, due to embarrassment or shame. Some also fear treatment won’t be covered by medical insurance, which is another misconception – it IS covered by health insurance companies, and their privacy is still protected.
Here is more information:

I think it is important, too, for those of us who love someone with Opioid Dependence to understand they have a disease and need help. If you need help or know someone who needs help visit Turntohelp.com for more information.

Symbiotics Colostrum Plus Review

September 16, 2013 by Emilee Evans

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
imageI was very intrigued by Symbiotics Colostrum Plus. Colostrum Plus helps support your immune system naturally. I personally knew the benefit of colostrum for babies but had no idea this kind of supplement was available!
I have also been learning more and more about the importance of the digestion system when it comes to immunity. It’s really important to keep things in check not only for a better overall well being but for your immunity as well.
I could definitely use more support on both accounts, so I was ready to give it a try. I appreciate that they use natural ingredients. It’s not uncommon to feel good about trying a new supplement just to find out it has synthetic ingredients. So I could enjoy the nice wild cherry taste of the chewables I received without worry! The kids like them, too!
I have been using the Colostrum Plus Chewables for a few weeks and have noticed a difference in my digestion system health for sure. I overall have just been feeling better as well. So it is definitely something I could continue as part of my daily routine! Just chew two tablets twice a day on an empty stomach. I take them when I first woke up and before I go to sleep.
Overall, I’m really happy with Symbiotics Colostrum Plus Chewables. I would recommend them for everyone because everybody can benefit from a boost in their immunity and healthy digestive system.

Global Game Changers {Review}

August 12, 2013 by Emilee Evans

We had the chance to review an Award Winning Superhero Activity Kit from Global Game Changers. I was really excited about this because I personally feel teaching our children about helping others and community service is very important, and Global Game Changers does so in a way that is fun, challenging, and rewarding. It takes a concept that might be otherwise difficult for young children to understand (particularly if they have social challenges) and relates it to something they not only understand but love – being a super hero!
Global Game Changers
We received a Global Game Changers Activity Kit to review with our 5 year old daughter. The recommended ages are 4-10. The kit includes a Global Game Changers Storybook, Superhero Activity book, and a Superhero Equation Activity Sheet so they can discover and record their superpower. It also had a letter written just for her, which I had to read given she’s just learning as well as information on their website and how to connect, engage, and become a Global Game Changer! Of course, I can’t forget the fun part – a hot pink cape and green Global Game Changers bracelet!
Global Game Changers
We started by reading the book (after her letter), which the whole family enjoyed together. The story is fun and inspiring as it shares the story of Global Girl, Little Big-Heart, and their dog Pixel as they recruit more super heroes to join GGC. They are real kids to whom other kids can relate doing things to help make a difference! I love that in the story they even make it a point to make it known the “recruits” don’t have super human strength or special abilities – they just want to help. No matter their age they can still do good and make a difference!
Global Game Changers
The Activity Kit is full of activities that are both fun and engaging. They get kids thinking about their own superpower. It explains more in depth the mission badges and how you can help. Because I had been sick we haven’t yet made it through the book, but upon completion your child takes the official GGC pledge, and you put their photo and name on their card, which I will laminate for sure! It recommends going to their website to get connected for more! The Activity Book has coloring pages, dot-to-dot, finger puppets, trading cards, cryptograms, spy-the-difference, mazes, and so much more! There is also a fun Mission Up! Card Game, which we’ve really enjoyed because you can play it so many different ways, and an origami style game that reminds me a lot of a game I used to play when I was kid! It is another way to get them engaged by asking questions and getting them thinking about ways to help!
Global Game Changers
Aurora has been having fun with the activities and brainstorming ideas for her own superpower along the way. We decided to take our time to come up with something that would be a good fit. What is her equation? Talent: Drawing + Heart: Animals = Drawing pictures for a calendar to sell and donate profits to animal shelters. Awesome, right? We’re trying to think of some other great ways to combine her talent and heart, but that was the idea we came up with together, and I think it’s pretty clever! We may even look into going to local adoption events and taking them to the events as well to both be given as gifts to those who adopt as well as a way to help the shelter raise funds. She will also be making cute signs with pictures letting people know what the shelter needs such as food, treats, beds, etc.
I think Global Game Changers is such an amazing way to get kids thinking about what they can do to help. Although we always do try to encourage our kids to look for opportunities to serve GGC really takes it to the next level by not only making it fun but by providing the “Superhero equation.” It is such a great idea! I am really appreciative of this and we got a kit for our 7 year old as well because even though we now know the tools he obviously needed his own credentials, cape, and bracelet! I can certainly understand why Global Game Changers has won so many awards!
It’s always great to encourage your children to give back, and Global Game Changers offers a positive, fun way to help.
