So, you may be thinking: didn’t we just do this? You might be thinking of one of two things. The Top 25 Homeschool Blogs on SkinnyScoop. I am honored to be in the Top 25! Thank-you!
Plus, I was just in the running for Circle of moms Top 25 Eco-Friendly Moms last month. Unfortunately, I didn’t make the Top 25, but again, I was honored just to be nominated. Sharing an eco-friendly lifestyle is definitely one of my passions after taking those steps every so slowly ourselves after my husband’s cancer diagnosis.
So, why not JUST eco-friendly living or JUST homeschooling or JUST special needs or JUST product reviews and giveaways? Well, I struggled with this myself. I have thought a couple of times how CAN I get a foothold in something like a Top 25 when I offer a variety of topics? Because, believe me, I already cut out a few other categories as well to bring things down to where they are now. You see, our family has faced some unique challenges, and instead of asking “why?” we’ve chosen to ask “how?” How can we use these challenges to help others? I HAVE to include my passion for eco-friendly living because I now know of the dangers and I know the very real challenges they can pose (like caring for a spouse with cancer or facing a decision to medicate your children rather than change their eating habits). That is just one part of it, but if I try to put Pea of Sweetness in a box to fit a perfect niche I will never reach the potential God is calling me to reach. He’s calling me to be open and real, which means there are parts I can’t leave out!
Since this is about homeschooling – let me share my passion for homeschooling. There have been times I have wanted to have SOLELY a homeschooling niche but again, after much thought (and prayer) I realized that’s not what God is calling me to do. Not to mention He is also calling me to be a better homemaker, and running separate blogs would be counterproductive! Although I do plan on offering more homeschooling resources (in addition to blog post content) in the near future after my husband’s medical retirement from the military is over and we are finally moved and settled in a new place, I realized sometimes what people need is to read posts that are just open and honest and say “here are our challenges – they are many, but here is how we’ve gotten through” or “this is how we’re getting through them today.” I can’t tell you how many times people have messaged me and said they tried something because they read a post about it on my blog. They got more details on a new curriculum because they have a child on the Autism spectrum as well that has similar learning challenges. They took a chance on a project, field trip, co-op, etc. because I did it with three special needs children, so it inspired them to stop putting it off and just do it! That is when I know I am on the right path. I just pray to continue to take it one step at a time and follow where I am being led.
If you’ve been following our journey and have appreciated the resources and personal content I really would be honored if you vote for me. Pea of Sweetness continues to grow and is an important resource for our family and will particularly be so as my husband transitions out of the military. I pray I am able to bless you as much as you have blessed us!

I have the utmost respect and appreciation for the personal experience and knowledge you bring to your blog and share with others. I really enjoy your perspective on topics near and dear to my heart and while I’ve not yet jumped on homeschooling…my girls are still enrolled at a public elementary school, I utilize a lot of your ideas at home regardless to supplement their learning. ๐
Thank-you! I’m so glad you’ve been able to use the ideas to supplement their learning! ๐
