I love having a devotional for our kids. Having a devotional for kids is a great way to keep them (I really mean me) on track, and it blends seamlessly into our homeschool schedule. I love devotionals that are more interactive than just reading, though, and that’s why I was excited to review Devotions Off the Map from Family Christian.
Disclosure: I received a complimentary product to facilitate my children’s devotional review. Regardless, all opinions are my own and those of my family. This post contains affiliate links.
Family Christian offers a great variety of Christian resources for kids. From books to music to toys, I feel good knowing they offer faith-based resources our kids love.
For my review I received the Devotions Off the Map book, which is set to release August 1st (but don’t worry, you can Pre-buy it now!).
Devotions Off the Map is a 52 Week Devotional for Kids. It really focuses on helping kids walk through their relationship with Jesus and building their relationship with Him. It uses a fun course-type layout where it ultimately stresses that Jesus is the guide.
We have been using Devotions Off the Map as part of our homeschool with our three children ages 9, 7, and 5, though the interactive questions and activities are more suited for our older children. Our youngest always likes to be involved when he can, though! We love that this devotion is laid out almost as an adventure. We’re an outdoors type family and love to explore, so our kids can really relate to the layout of the devotion, and I love how it brings it back to their relationship with Jesus.
I love how flexible Devotions Off the Map is. There are related verses, questions, and activities (which all have their own exciting adventure type descriptions). You can use as much or as little as you’d like. We’re encouraged to make it our own (a.k.a. go off the map). At the very beginning, it lays everything out for the parents so we can get familiar with the devotional before we begin.
I, personally, like that there are questions to really dig deeper, but due to our children’s special needs, open ended questions are difficult for them. So I ask them in ways that it makes them think but offer options to help guide them. This has been working well for us.
The further activities are dependent on the day. Because these are weekly devotionals, it gives us plenty of flexibility to stretch out the activities throughout the week. This is definitely very helpful. There are many corresponding verses to relate to the weekly devotion, so I also spread them out throughout the week and go over our devotion again in review.
Off the Map Devotions is really written in a unique and interesting way that appeals to our kids. It has beautiful illustrations and overall, it has really helped our kids dig deeper into God’s Word and consider their relationship with Him and how to make it more meaningful.

The best instructions come from our God!!
Having devotions for kids is always good. Starting them off at a young age is important!!
Although our grandchildren attend Christian preschools, vacation Bible schools and have Bible study @ home I would also like to incorporate more teaching of the Word of God when they visit me.
Definitely. That’s a great idea!
