We have been seeing the excitement build for Dolphin Tale 2, which hit theaters today! What I didn’t know, though, is that homeschoolers had a big influence on the production of this movie as homeschool groups groups and communities came out in masses at the matinee screenings of opening day of the original Dolphin Tale movie, which caught Hollywood’s attention! It helped to make Dolphin Tale a success so Dolphin Tale 2 could be produced!
Something else I didn’t know is that there is an awesome site that has a variety of curriculum to compliment a variety of movies! Not to mention, there is a whole section of FREE homeschool curriculum! It’s wonderful for families with a tight budget. One of the free curricula they offer is for Dolphin Tale 2.
I was impressed by how much information it had particularly for a free curriculum! You can access each piece of the curriculum online, or you can download it to your computer for access at any time! Part of the curriculum is videos and others are PDF. It is required to create an account to access the curriculum, but it is really easy to do, and then you have instant access!
Lesson 1 begins with a 5 minute Introduction video and an Introduction PDF followed by the first Lesson in the PDF. The video and the PDF go together. The video is played straight from the website, and can be maximized to full screen, which is nice.
The curriculum is essentially detailed lessons about dolphins from anatomy, daily life, ocean, aquarium life, and how we may interact with dolphins. There are a total of 5 lessons each with a video and PDF plus an Answer Key. Each lesson has a picture to denote if the lesson is geared toward elementary-aged or middle-aged to high school students. Some of the lessons can be used for both, and some are better suited for one or the other. Each lesson can easily be completed in well under one hour: 15 – 45 minutes was the average for us.
Additionally, there is also a PDF for a Dolphin Tale 2 Curriculum by Classical Conversations! We haven’t yet used it, but it has a lot of details, and I can’t wait to check it out!

Are you ready to see Dolphin Tale 2?
About the movie:
Inspired by true events, Dolphin Tale 2 continues the story of the brave dolphin Winter, whose miraculous rescue and recovery—thanks to a groundbreaking prosthetic tail—made her a symbol of hope and perseverance to people around the world and inspired the 2011 family hit movie “Dolphin Tale.” This film reunites the entire main cast, led by Harry Connick Jr., Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson, and of course, the remarkable dolphin Winter as herself. Champion surfer Bethany Hamilton, who has been an example of courage, also appears in the film.
It has been several years since young Sawyer Nelson and the dedicated team at the Clearwater Marine Hospital, headed by Dr. Clay Haskett, rescued Winter. With the help of Dr. Cameron McCarthy, who developed a unique prosthetic tail for the injured dolphin, they were able to save her life. Yet their fight is not over. Winter’s surrogate mother, the very elderly dolphin Panama, has passed away, leaving Winter without the only pool mate she has ever known. However, the loss of Panama may have greater repercussions for Winter, who, according to USDA regulations, cannot be housed alone, as dolphins’ social behavior requires them to be paired with other dolphins. Time is running out to find a companion for her before the team at Clearwater loses their beloved Winter to another aquarium.

I really enjoyed reading your review on Dolphin Tale 2 Free Homeschool Curriculum! I don’t homeschool but I know people who do. This is a Terrific Learning opportunity for the kids! To learn about dolphins in captivity and in their natural environment while having fun watching clips of the movie and learning! It’s a Great Teaching aid for the home schooling parents! I’m not familiar with the original dolphin movie or the 2nd one either! I hear they are excellent movies! The best part of this is that it’s FREE!!! I love to hear those words! Especially now with everything going on here at home! I thank you for sharing this with all of us, and I’m going to write or print a lot of this out to take to the people I know who homeschool! Maybe they too can benefit from it! Thanks again, Michele 🙂
