The first thing I posted in the 5 Days of Homeschooling Essentials series was the need for a lot of pencils. Our kids are always losing them and breaking them. Of course, that also means a good pencil sharpener is important, too. This is something we hadn’t yet found.
When I saw the Classroom Friendly Pencil Sharpener I was intrigued and wondered if this could be the solution to our pencil sharpener problems! I was excited for the chance to review it.
At one point I was convinced we needed an electric pencil sharpener, but they have been nothing but problematic for us. I was relieved this was not an electric pencil sharpener yet it looked so easy to use that it wouldn’t be hard on my hands and wrists, which can be a problem for me. Surprisingly, our electronic one IS because I really have to push the pencil in hard for it to even work. Of course, knowing the right amount of pressure is a challenge, too, and sometimes I push too hard and break it. It’s a constant battle.
When the Classroom Friendly Sharpener arrived I was eager to try it right away. We have plenty of pencils that need sharpening so we could test it out! The Classroom Friendly Sharpener comes with a wall mount, but it also has little bumpers on the bottom so you can place it on a table or desk. Since we rent and are trying to minimize holes in the wall, this is the option we chose.
Now you may be wondering how you can hold the sharpener, pencil, and turn the crank at the same time? The unique feature I enjoy most about this pencil sharpener – you don’t have to hold the pencil! Seriously, it does it for you. It stops when it’s finished, and you end up with a perfect point every time! My husband and I were so impressed we sharpened a whole handful of pencils just to keep using it!
I took a little video to show it in action!
Pretty awesome, right? We have sharpened at least 20 pencils and have always gotten the same, reliable results – a nicely sharpened pencil that took no straining and no problems with the led breaking. They are all just standard pencils with standard led.
An extra benefit is that this pencil sharpener is pretty quiet, too! No loud hums and grinds from an electric pencil sharpener, but no loud grinding either like the manual pencil sharpeners I remember from school!
I can definitely say this is our favorite pencil sharpener, and it is definitely the most effective. It is the solution to our pencil sharpener problems! Plus, the kids like using it so much, I don’t have to remind them to keep their pencils sharpened! It gets two thumbs up for being homeschool friendly, too!

“Since we went and are trying to minimize holes,” huh? In the video is did seem pretty load.. but then you say it is quiet..
We rent the home we live in, so we chose not to mount it on the wall in order to minimize holes in the wall.
Thank-you for pointing out the video makes it hard to notice the difference in sound since I didn’t actually compare it to anything. I haven’t been well lately and just wanted to show a video of how it works. I do apologize that I wasn’t able to get a video of comparing it to another. I will see if I can find something from their website.
We have one of these sharpeners too! ๐ I like the pretty colors.
I do, too! Red happens to be my favorite color, so I was pretty excited to get red! ๐
I really like this! It seems really cool and I love that it stops when the pencil is sharpened.
As a homeschooling mama with the same pencil problem, I would so benefit from one of these! Thanks for the great review and I will be checking them out!
Thanks for your review on the pencil sharpener. When my son was in high school, we had constant problems with pencil sharpeners. I even installed one on a side table beside the printer. It was screwed onto that table and worked fairly well until it stopped working. I have never seen one like the one you reviewed, but may get one now.
I love these kind of sharpeners they are the only ones that get pencils sharpen without breaking
Yes! I can’t tell you how many times I would break pencils in other sharpeners!

This would be great for my granddaughter
What an awesome pencil sharpener. I would love to win it. My favorite feature is that it hold and sharpens the pencil automatically. I either break the lead or push to hard when I sharpen a pencil and before long I just end up with an eraser and a nub of the pencil. This sharpener would be excellent for children and adults like me.
This has a very interesting construction to it which makes me quite curious with a desire to try it out. First I’d have to break the habit of holding the pencil ๐
Love the looks of this sharpener and would love to have a perfectly pointed pencil each time!
I love the looks of this, and all the different colors.
This would be an awesome win for me as I start student teaching soon!
I agree it’s hard to find a good pencil sharpener. I have never seen one like this. I have tried battery operated, electric and hand twist models and none of them worked good for me. I like how this one stops when the it has a pencil perfect point. How cool is that.
This is pretty cool and the feature that it stops when the pencil is done is awesome.
I love this pencil sharpener. My grandchildren would use it constantly. I also really like that it’s manual too. I have a battery operated one and it uses a lot of batteries. It is great that it doesn’t let you over sharpen too.
I gave one of these sharpeners to my daughter-in-law who is a teacher, and she loves it!
I have another one I got that I thought was good(I think it’s exacto), but lately, it grabs my pencils and sharpens them slanted!!
This is something I could really use in my home. With 5 school aged children who never have a sharpened pencil And I alway struggle with the small sharpener I have now It would not only save pencils(I hate waste) but I would always have a sharp pencil in the house for them to do schoolwork.
I like the modern color of it as opposed to the old fashioned steel one I have from decades ago
This pencil sharpener looks very useful. Thanks for sharing!
Well, it’s about time there was a reliable pencil sharpener out there! Thank you for blogging this!
