I LOVE footie pajamas! I think they look really cute on kids – particularly when they’re babies and toddlers. When we were living near Washington DC we had seasons, and although it wasn’t like the winters I was used to growing up in Ohio, it still got pretty cold. Remember the winter of 2009 when we got 2 blizzards with 20 inches of snow each? LOL Every other winter we only got a little snow! THAT was crazy! Anyway, footie pajamas are particularly great for the cold winters because they’re so warm. Even if they’re made of cotton instead of fleece they’re still pretty warm! Seriously, they’re a fantastic one-piece solution particularly in colder weather! That goes for the older kids as well! I might even be guilty of throwing them on our kids (when they were babies) for a quick run to the grocery store!
Aww look how little he is in this picture!

Well, we have a slight problem. For one thing – we live in Texas now, and it’s HOT. It was around 100 degrees today, and it’s the beginning of June! It’s definitely NOT footie pajama weather – probably not even a good idea at night! Plus, none of our kids are at the age where leaving the house in footie pajamas would be appropriate! It’s one thing to see them on a baby sitting in a stroller or a cart. It’s quite different for a toddler that likes to run around. Yes, again, I AM guilty of doing it and putting shoes over the footie part – but again, that’s where it was cold! So here we are, 100 degree weather, our youngest is not over age 2, and he has decided all he loves footie pajamas! Eventually he WILL submit to a t-shirt and shorts or pants, but wow does he put up a fight! I will let him wear them to bed despite the fact that it’s hot because well, you pick your battles, right? If he got too hot he’d let us know. The problem is he wants to wear them ALL THE TIME. Every time we say we’re about to go somewhere and need to finish getting ready he runs to his closet and points to footie pajamas. I moved them to the back side of the closet even, and he will go in there to point them out! I will gently say “no, it’s too hot for footie pajamas, and during the day we wear shirts and shorts or pants. Please choose something else.” Well, he will choose something else – another pair of footie pajamas! LOL This goes on until we finally just pick something for him! He cries or throws a fit about it for a while, but when he realizes he either wears what we give him or he doesn’t go he finally gives in. I feel so bad, though, because he’s finally trying to communicate more (his speech delay is significant – 13-25 month level at 25 months old), and it’s hard to say no! I know, hardly a REAL dilemma! haha I am seriously considering just putting up all of the footie pajamas one day while my husband takes them to the playground or plays with them in the back yard or something! I’m still perplexed WHY he wants the footie pajamas particularly when it’s SO HOT! I’m guessing it might have to do with the fact that they usually don’t have tags and because they are one piece there aren’t a lot of different “feelings” to overwhelm his senses – no waist bands, no socks with seams, no shirt riding up, etc. Perhaps I can win him over with some one-piece rompers short-sleeve rompers! 😉
