Picking Eating Solved! FunBites Review

November 27, 2013 by Emilee Evans

Disclosure: I received a FunBites cutter to facilitate my review. Regardless, I only recommend products I feel would be good for my readers. All opinions are mine and those of my family. This post contains affiliate links. Please see my disclosure policy for more information.

FUNBITES

Do you have a picky eater? Or maybe your child isn’t picky but they have special needs like ours. Children with certain special needs like those on the Autism Spectrum or those with Sensory Processing Disorder can face many different eating challenges from texture challenges making it harder to eat large pieces. Cutting up food constantly can be time consuming, and sometimes when we present it and it doesn’t look “just right,” all that effort feels like it has gone to waste! Well, let me tell you what a great idea FunBites is!
FunBites is the food cutter EVERY mom dreams of – not just us moms of special needs kiddos! It is so much more than just a sandwich cutter! FunBites is great for encouraging picky kids to eat by making their food fun! If Bento lunches are your thing (if so, please show me your ways! haha), FunBites are the perfect tool! And yes, FunBites is great for savings time on constantly cutting up food. The best part? It ALWAYS turns out “just right,” so if you also have kids that are picky about presentation (like ours), you won’t have to worry about that, either!
For our review we received their new triangles cutter. I knew the boys wouldn’t be too fond of the hearts, but I wanted something a little more diverse than the squares. It was a good choice because all three kids really liked it! In fact, they insisted on using it right away, so I had to make some toast just so we could try it out!
FunBites Review
There are a few features I really like about FunBites. In addition to the fact that it is easy to use, makes nice shapes every time for nice presentation, and just plain fun, too, I also like that it is made out of BPA free plastic! The kids like to use it, too, and I can let them without the fear that sharp knives give me – especially because they have fine-motor challenges! Despite being plastic, though, it is VERY sturdy. I was surprised how tough it is! It came with a slip of paper that said you can push down really hard because it can handle it. That is definitely true!
To use the FunBites cutter is simple. You just take out the popper, place the cutter over the food and press down, and then use the popper to pop your now bite-size pieces out! Easy peasy! It’s easy to clean, too, because it’s dishwasher safe (on the top shelf).
In addition to making the task of cutting foods easier, it has also made eating more fun in general. Our preschooler (who also happens to be the one who has the hardest time with big pieces and textures as well) has been particularly picky lately. He barely wants a variety of anything anymore, and he used to love everything! I think the move got him all out of sorts. Now that there is an option to make the food fun he is open to eating it again! He has to play with it first to arrange the triangles into different shapes, but why shouldn’t eating be fun? I’m so glad all three of our kids are having fun and enjoying our meal times together in a new creative way!
FunBites would make a great Christmas gift for ANY family with young children!
