Each of our family members received a complementary CityPASS during the GoHouston! Travel Campaign hosted by New Creative Writing and Social Media Marketing, home to Money Saving Parent.com. All opinions are my own.
I didn’t want to leave out the remainder of our 4th of July trip to Houston, and I definitely don’t want you to miss out on what the Houston Downtown Aquarium has to offer! After visiting Space Center Houston and Kemah Boardwalk we checked our CityPASS to see what we could do next! So we headed to the Downtown Aquarium.
At the Downtown Aquarium you can enjoy a unique dining experience, carnival rides, and Stingray Reef where you can pet and feed stingrays. Of course, it also the aquarium itself which includes beautiful aquatic creatures, a parrot, and a beautiful white tiger.
With our CityPASS we got admission to the aquarium and Stingray Reef. We had the option to upgrade for only $5 each to receive full access to all the rides as well, but since had just been at Kemah Boardwalk we already had enough rides for the day!
The kids loved the aquarium, and I took the opportunity to turn it into a learning experience by reading the information on the signs and then asking questions about what they had learned. It was so much fun! We loved that there were a variety of aquatic creatures including frogs. Plus we enjoyed the parrot and just sitting and watching the white tiger at the end. He/she was sleeping when we were there and only got up to move around, but we still thought it was pretty neat.
There are so many colors, sizes and varieties of aquatic creatures, and interesting information about them!
We also went into Stingray Reef to pet the stingrays. We didn’t get any food to feed them, but they still came near so we could pet them. Our older two kids were nervous at first because they thought they would get stung, but I explained petting them the way we are told we have absolutely nothing to worry about. After that they thought it was neatest thing ever.
The Houston Downtown Aquarium is a nice place to visit whether for a date night, family fun, with or without children. There really is something for everyone. We had gone prior to having children, and it is a nice dining experience as well! It is a must visit if you’re in the Houston area!
We love aquariums and I can’t wait to take Myka to a proper one! We went to the aquarium in Chattanooga, TN, I think, and they had a tank where you could pet the horseshoe crabs and stingrays, but I was too chicken. lol
Ooh I might chicken out with the horseshoe crabs. Something about them freaks me out!
Great pictures! We love petting stingrays at our local zoo – we have been talking about taking a trip to Houston as a family vacation, I will have to add the aquarium as another reason to visit!
Definitely! And hopefully by then we will be living there, so you can add visiting us to your list, too! ๐
I really love aquariums! The best one I have visited was in Berlin Zoo. Seems like you had a lot of fun.
!!! Gorgeous tiger photo! What a beautiful animal! And being able to get up close with the sting rays is so awesome… it looks like actually really enjoy being “petted”. If I go visit my aunt in Texas anytime soon I think we’ll have to put this on the to-do list!
They do seem to like it! They would come right up to us even though we didn’t have food!
Looks like an amazing aquarium! I wish I lived close to visit.
Oh my gosh, how beautiful! I wish we traveled more, I think this would be at the top of my list!
Beautiful photos! What a great experience!
Thank-you!
I would love to visit here. Some great photos, I bet you all had so much fun! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! We did!
How fun!!! I love your photos, the Sting Ray pictures are my favorite!!! I’m glad your family had a good time! I’m thinking about taking my girls to the aquarium in TN soon ๐ They haven’t been since they were tiny!
I bet they will love it!
This is awesome and I love that you got to pet the stingrays!
Beautiful pictures! Looks like a lot of fun!
I know whenever I went to the aquarium as a kid is was so magical! It was a whole different world there were so many different creatures to admire. I’m sad that most adults lose some (or a lot) of that ability to be so awed. Sounds like a worthwhile aquarium with all the exhibits. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to see
