Jolly Time Popcorn Review

August 30, 2012 by Emilee Evans

JOLLY TIME Pop Corn

It’s that time of year again! Whether your children go to school or you homeschool like we do, the pace seems to pick up this time of year and quick, healthy snacks are in demand! I had a chance to review JOLLY TIME Popcorn, and I loved that not only is it a quick, healthy snack, but I learned so much more about Jolly Time and popcorn in general! We LOVE popcorn! It’s simple, and even our 4 year old can put a bag in the microwave and set the timer. She LOVES doing things for herself, so she really enjoys being able to make her own snack! Apparently a lot of people have the same idea because fall really is the peak time for popcorn consumption! It really is a quick, simple snack you can feel good about! Here are some fun nutrition facts:

  • Air-popped popcorn has only 31 calories per cup; oil-popped popcorn has only 55 calories per cup.
  • When lightly buttered, popcorn contains about 133 calories per cup
  • Popcorn is a whole grain, making it a good-for-you food.
  • Popcorn provides energy-producing complex carbohydrates.
  • Popcorn contains fiber, providing roughage the body needs in the daily diet.
  • Popcorn is naturally low in fat and calories.
  • Popcorn has no artificial additives or preservatives, and it is sugar-free.
  • Popcorn is ideal for between meal snacking since it satisfies and doesn’t spoil the appetite.
  • 3 cups of popcorn equal one serving from the grain group.

I have to admit, some of those facts are new to me, and it made me feel good about choosing popcorn as a snack!
For the review we got to try their Healthy Pop Kettle Corn 100 Calorie Bags, Healthy Pop Butter Flavor 100 Cal. Bags, and their Blast O Butter Minis. I was so excited when it arrived because I’ll admit when it comes to popcorn we were kind of boring always choosing the same flavor (buttered – VERY buttered), so I was excited to mix it up and see what the family likes as well!
JOLLY TIME Pop Corn

Ideally we try to have a little something to eat every 2-3 hours because I know that helps our metabolisms function to the fullest, and those “in between” meals snacks I try to keep around 100 calories, so these bags were absolutely perfect! I would pop two – one for the kids, and one for me (and my husband when he’s home).  Or the kids would pop a bag to share as I mentioned – they love to make their own! Even though we prefer to eat healthy in our home I am sometimes nervous it won’t “go over well” particularly with our picky eater.

The whole family enjoyed ALL of them, though! I was actually a big fan of the Kettle Corn. That little bit of sweetness is just so good to me! The Healthy Pop Butter had plenty of flavor and wasn’t bland at all. I was so afraid being accustomed to the really buttery popcorn it might not have enough flavor, but it does! The Blast O Butter minis are wonderful, and I love the little bags for better portion control!

Did you know Jolly Time has MANY different flavors? I really feel like I haven’t explored popcorn enough after learning about Jolly Time and all they offer! They also have a recipe page, so if you want to make different things with popcorn there are all kinds of great (and healthy) ideas! Many of the recipes would be great to make with your kids as well!

Great review! I also try to eat every 2 to 3 hours to keep my metabolism going, and I have often grabbed the snack size bag of kettle corn to keep me held over until my next meal.
