Last year I had the chance to review Diet-to-Go and found that it really simplified eating smart for a busy mom like myself that is easily caught up in the busy of every day life. I am excited to now be a Diet to Go Ambassador!
Disclosure: I received a one week subscription to facilitate my Diet-to-Go review. Regardless, all opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links.
Diet-to-Go takes all the guesswork out of food tracking and calorie counting by providing pre-made nutritionally balanced meals in line with your choice of plan: low-fat, vegetarian, and low-carb. Diet-to-Go is designed to help you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. Plus they offer a great, supportive online community for additional support and encourage.
Diet-to-Go offers both home delivery as well as local pickup options in some areas. This allows more people to experience their services versus solely offering pickup options. For my review, I received one week worth of meals delivered to my home. For the week, I received three meals per day at the 1600 Calorie Plan with a corresponding menu/plan to follow. My goal is 1500 calories per day, but I know last time I didn’t always eat everything (or the kids would sneak bites because mom’s food is always better, right?), so I thought this was a better option for me than the 1200 calories (but I’ll explain later why I determined it wasn’t). The package is packed in a Styrofoam box with both ice packs and dry ice.
Diet-to-Go Meals
Although the meal plans are laid out each week, there is rom for flexibility. I love that I can make substitutions as needed. This is perfect for ensuring you will avoid any foods to which you may be sensitive as well as making sure you receive meals you’ll enjoy. Plus, knowing you have the flexibility to make substitutions can definitely help you feel confident you will enjoy your experience! This time I was sure to request foods without artificial sweeteners because they trigger my migraines and Fibro flare-ups, so I didn’t have to worry about not being able to eat (or drink) anything in my meals.
Many of the meals should be kept frozen and then cooked in the microwave or oven. The containers are both microwave and oven safe, so you can easily choose the preparation that you prefer or is best in that moment. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has lost track of time and needed my meal in a pinch! I could simply cook it in the microwave in sometimes less than 5 minutes, and I was ready to eat! Most meals have multiple items including some with drinks. I like to keep track of what meals would be coming up so they could be properly thawed. Though, it definitely happened that I forgot to thaw one, and I was still able to prepare it with a little extra time for cooking.
As with the last week of meals I received, there were some meals I absolutely loved and some I just thought were “eh.” I’m pretty sure this is common with any food, though. There will always be things I love and things I don’t even like at all. Overall, though, I was once again happy with the taste of the foods as well as the varieties and pairings! All meals were filling for me, and they once again gave me a realistic outlook on portion sizes. Although my goal is 1500 calories, I fell out of the habit of tracking and have no doubt there are days I miss the mark – both eating too many or too few. This took the guesswork out it!
Pretzel bread is delicious! I also found it holds up better than traditional bread as far as not getting squishy. It was one of my favorite meals!
The only issue I had this time was not thinking about snacks between meals. I try to eat a little something every 2.5 – 3.5 hours, but since this was three meals at my total calorie limit, I didn’t have leeway for the between the meal snacks. In retrospect I may have been wiser to choose the 1200 calorie option (which is ultimately recommended for women) so I could fill in the gaps with healthy between meal snacks, but I opted to take a small portion of the meals for the snacks as well.
Overall, I was once again pleased with my Diet-to-Go meals and think Diet-to-Go offers a great, sensible alternative to eating smarter without all the tracking. Not that there is anything wrong with tracking – I think it’s great, but I’m just not very good at keeping up with this, so Diet-to-Go is the perfect solution for people likes me!
