It’s that time of year where Easter is around the corner, and we are seeing Easter decor, candies, toys, etc. everywhere! It can be hard to keep focus on what Easter is all about. When I was introduced to a book that contains multiple stories that were elected for their spiritual value and literary quality, I was excited to review it!

Easter Stories includes time-honored favorites from world-famous storytellers such as C.S. Lewis, Leo Tolstoy, Selma Lagerlof, Oscar Wilde, Elizabeth Goudge, Maxim Gorky, Ruth Sawyer, Anton Chekhov, and Walter Wangerin – as well as many I’ve never heard before – and you may not have either. It is illustrated with original woodcuts. It is 383 pages, so needless to say, it offers many great stories!
For my review I received the Easter Stories book. I, unfortunately, haven’t had a chance to read all of the stories in the book, but I am just amazed at how many there are! I admit, I haven’t heard of or read many of the stories before! It is noted that these classic tales capture the spirit of Holy Week and Easter in a way that will captivate readers of all ages.
I would read a story first myself before reading them out loud to the kids, but there are definitely many that are great for kids. Our kids are younger (ages 8, 7, and 4), so I did find some of the longer stories wouldn’t be ideal, but they were still great for my own reading! I absolutely love the variety of the stories and love that they focus on the Holy Season and the true meaning of Easter. Some of the stories are actually based on certain books and passages of the Bible. Many of the stories even feature an introduction with the history behind the story.
Overall, I think Easter Stories is a great book. There are so many different stories all keeping the focus on the Holy Season that you can choose stories that are best for reading out loud to your children or grandchildren as well as stories you will love to just read yourself! Easter Stories can be purchased on Amazon.
