This is a really exciting week! April 16 – April 24, 2016 is National Parks Week! Plus the National Parks Service turns 100 this year! National Geographic Kids Books Celebrates National Parks 100th Birthday with some amazing National Parks resources for kids (and adults, too)! As a homeschool mom I always love resources that are educational in nature but are fun as well! I was definitely excited to see all the great National Parks resources for kids that they offer!
Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate my post and review. Regardless, all opinions are my own and those of my family.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Parks as well as National Parks Weeks, National Geographic Kids has released four new children’s books to introduce kids to the wonder and beauty of our nation’s parks. I think this is fantastic because the closest National Park to us is Cuyahoga Valley, which is about a 2 hour drive. We do plan to take a field trip there soon, but this is a great way to not only get them excited about our visit there, but an appreciation of and interest in the other National Parks as well!
National Parks Resources for Kids
We received the new books for our review, which includes:
- Junior Ranger Activity Book (ages 8-12, $14.99) – Great for getting everyone excited before a trip, long car rides, poking around historical sites or general learning, this 160 page activity book inspired by the Junior Ranger program is packed with games, puzzles, quizzes, jokes and over 450 photographs.
- Buddy Bison’s Yellowstone Adventure (ages 4-8, $9.99) – Buddy Bison, the beloved parks’ mascot, comes to life in this children’s picture book. Beautiful pictures of Yellowstone serve as the backdrop for the adventure of twins Elana and Christopher who are spending their summer with their Aunt Rosa, a park ranger. An afterword offers a history of Yellowstone and ways kids can get involved in parks preservation.
- Funny Fill-In: My National Park Adventure (ages 8-12, $4.99) – The newest addition to National Geographic Kids Books’ popular fill-in-the-blank series, this book features over 20 activities, which, once completed, makes one big story about our national parks.
- The National Geographic Kids National Parks Guide U.S.A. Centennial Edition (ages 8-12, $14.99) is the official guide to exploring these greatest of American treasures. Whether planning a park visit soon or just want to explore them from home, the book is packed with color photos, fascinating lists, fun facts, maps, cool things to do, conservation tips and more. The parks are so much more than just trails and trees, and this trusted guide brings the historic structures, cultural artifacts, snow-capped mountains and clear blue lakes that make up our national parks to life.
Additionally, for our review I received the National Geographic Guide to National Parks of the United States, 8th Edition.
What I love most about these National Parks resources for kids is that it allows the kids to experience the National Parks right from home. It is an informative and interactive way to learn about the National Parks, and I love that their National Parks resources for kids are designed for kids of various ages. Although three of the books are geared for children 8-12 (the age range of our older two children), there is one that is ideal for children ages 4-8, which is great for our 5 year old. In fact, our youngest loves Buddy Bison. Plus, the books offer not only education but fun as well! Our family is particularly fond of the fun fill-in stories, so when we saw there is a Funny Fill-In, we were so excited!
There are so many great pictures, and the books are in full color. I am really impressed with the quality. Plus the information is so thorough. I’ve really been learning a lot about the National Parks as well! They not only offer information about the National Parks, but some great tips like checklists, activity tips, animals, the best views and more.
These are just a few of the great resources! Check out all of the great National Parks Books that are available.
