Ah, Math. Math is one of those subjects that kids can enjoy or completely loathe. Sometimes it’s not even about being challenging but about keeping their attention and learning in a way they enjoy. Our kids do well with Math. Even our preschooler is progressing quickly. As soon as they try Math in a way that is “boring” to them, though, there is a lot of whining and even some tears.
Needless to say, I appreciate when we discover Math that is both educational AND fun. Math programs can go three ways with us – it’s educational but doesn’t hold their interest, it’s fun but doesn’t really cover what they need or in the way we prefer, or it’s educational and fun. I was excited for our oldest son (age 8) to really dive into 10monkeys Math World because it fits in the last category!

10monkeys Math World is an online Math Program geared for younger elementary aged children around grades K-3. Our two oldest children (including our 8 year old son who has started 10Monkeys Math World) are both at the 2nd Grade Math Level. What I discovered, though, is it’s not necessarily based on Math Level. You can start where your children are regardless of Grade Level.
For example, you can choose to work in the various number ranges: 0-10, 0-20, 0-100, and 0-1000. There are also available Awards to encourage children in their progress. The Awards are in the form of both Badges and Honors. Badges can be earned multiple times whereas Honors are a one-time reward for a big achievement. Brayden is on the Autism Spectrum and is very motivated by having goals, so the Rewards are a huge advantage for motivation. He has already asked what he has to do to earn the next rewards.

Once you choose the specific number range, you are then presented with a large variety of topics in which to practice. Each topic is then divided into sub-topics. For example, in the 0-100 Category the topics are: Number Recognition, Addition, Multiplication, Division, Subtraction, Money, and Text Problems. Each of those topics are broken into 10 or more focused sub-topics. I am really impressed with everything it includes!

In addition to the fun, eye-catching graphics kids love, 10monkeys Math World takes a progressive approach to learning Math. It uses what is referred to as the “high pedagogic approach,” developed together with top professionals and schools. As they progress, their skills are improving as well.
Additionally, there is a section where I can look at progress. It shows both “Attempts” and “Progress,” so I can follow closely how he is doing and see if he may need additional help in that area. It shares details about how long he has been practicing and the number he got correct out of the total number of problems attempted. It’s nice to see a detailed report!
Overall, we haven’t been using 10monkeys Math long, but I’m glad to now have it as an addition to our homeschool curriculum. He loves it and is doing well with it! Plus, at $5.90/year per child for one subject or $17.90/year per child for all subjects, it is something that is affordable for homeschoolers as well! It surely beats $15/month per child or more, which I have found to just not be affordable as a homeschooler of three children. I was definitely impressed by the pricing. Plus, they have a 14-Day Money Back Guarantee. 10monkeys Math is an online, account based program that is also compatible with iPads and Android devices as well.
