Oogies gourmet popcorn

About:

Oogie’s Gourmet popcorn is gluten free, has no trans fats, no cholesterol and is all natural. Let’s all be honest now, usually when a food or snack product sells itself as being healthy or not unhealthy, the first thing we all instantly wonder is if it has any taste. Somewhere along the way we have been bamboozled into believing that the only way for something to possibly taste good is if it is lathered in cholesterol and sprinkled with artificial flavoring.
I’m happy to report that while Oogie’s does not claim to be beneficial to your health but they went out of their way to ensure that their gourmet popcorn is not unhealthy for you. As for the taste…Oogie’s has a wide variety of bold gourmet popcorn flavors and I mean bold.
Don’t get me wrong I love popcorn but I’m used to the artificial microwave variety that leaves that distinctive smell in your kitchen after you make it. I am used to bland popcorn so popcorn was the snack I would gravitate to when there was nothing else to snack on. Oogie’s gourmet popcorn was a rather pleasant surprise to me.
We first opened the Movie Lover’s Butter Popcorn and I was expecting it to have that same flavor as the store bought easy popcorn. Do you know the type I’m referring to? Comes in a folded envelope and looks like something that might have been designed to go along on a space expedition to the moon. The Oogie’s popcorn buttery flavor was definitely there but no greasy fingers because the popcorn was light, crispy and fat free.
Okay, so you can teach an old dog a few new tricks. I always thought popcorn was best had fresh from the microwave but Oogie’s foil lined bag delivered light fresh popcorn that smelled and tasted like it was just popped.
I like spicy things, so I personally had my eye on the Hatch Chili Con Queso. I have learned from the past that anything marked as spicy will have a slight burn but will have no flavor. Oogie’s turned this one around on me because the spicy Hatch Chili Con Queso was not hot at all but had a beautiful chili flavor. The wife and kids all know that if anything is labeled as spicy that it is mine so they were wary of trying the Hatch Chili Con Queso, not because I would bite their heads off but because none of them can stand anything with heat to it.
I offered some of the “spicy” popcorn to the kids and at first they thought I was trying to trick them into eating something hot but I managed to get them to take a nibble. I should have kept up the spicy hot facade because they finished off the bag in no time.
Of all the popcorn we ate we all liked the Cracked Pepper and Asiago flavor because we all like pepper. I am very pleased with Oogie’s Gourmet Popcorn and would highly recommend you try them all because there is not really one that I can say was not good.

Jolly Time Popcorn Review

August 30, 2012 by Emilee Evans

JOLLY TIME Pop Corn

It’s that time of year again! Whether your children go to school or you homeschool like we do, the pace seems to pick up this time of year and quick, healthy snacks are in demand! I had a chance to review JOLLY TIME Popcorn, and I loved that not only is it a quick, healthy snack, but I learned so much more about Jolly Time and popcorn in general! We LOVE popcorn! It’s simple, and even our 4 year old can put a bag in the microwave and set the timer. She LOVES doing things for herself, so she really enjoys being able to make her own snack! Apparently a lot of people have the same idea because fall really is the peak time for popcorn consumption! It really is a quick, simple snack you can feel good about! Here are some fun nutrition facts:

  • Air-popped popcorn has only 31 calories per cup; oil-popped popcorn has only 55 calories per cup.
  • When lightly buttered, popcorn contains about 133 calories per cup
  • Popcorn is a whole grain, making it a good-for-you food.
  • Popcorn provides energy-producing complex carbohydrates.
  • Popcorn contains fiber, providing roughage the body needs in the daily diet.
  • Popcorn is naturally low in fat and calories.
  • Popcorn has no artificial additives or preservatives, and it is sugar-free.
  • Popcorn is ideal for between meal snacking since it satisfies and doesn’t spoil the appetite.
  • 3 cups of popcorn equal one serving from the grain group.

I have to admit, some of those facts are new to me, and it made me feel good about choosing popcorn as a snack!
For the review we got to try their Healthy Pop Kettle Corn 100 Calorie Bags, Healthy Pop Butter Flavor 100 Cal. Bags, and their Blast O Butter Minis. I was so excited when it arrived because I’ll admit when it comes to popcorn we were kind of boring always choosing the same flavor (buttered – VERY buttered), so I was excited to mix it up and see what the family likes as well!
JOLLY TIME Pop Corn

Ideally we try to have a little something to eat every 2-3 hours because I know that helps our metabolisms function to the fullest, and those “in between” meals snacks I try to keep around 100 calories, so these bags were absolutely perfect! I would pop two – one for the kids, and one for me (and my husband when he’s home).  Or the kids would pop a bag to share as I mentioned – they love to make their own! Even though we prefer to eat healthy in our home I am sometimes nervous it won’t “go over well” particularly with our picky eater.

The whole family enjoyed ALL of them, though! I was actually a big fan of the Kettle Corn. That little bit of sweetness is just so good to me! The Healthy Pop Butter had plenty of flavor and wasn’t bland at all. I was so afraid being accustomed to the really buttery popcorn it might not have enough flavor, but it does! The Blast O Butter minis are wonderful, and I love the little bags for better portion control!

Did you know Jolly Time has MANY different flavors? I really feel like I haven’t explored popcorn enough after learning about Jolly Time and all they offer! They also have a recipe page, so if you want to make different things with popcorn there are all kinds of great (and healthy) ideas! Many of the recipes would be great to make with your kids as well!
