Organic Produce Delivered Right to Your Door {GrubMarket Review}

February 5, 2016 by Emilee Evans

We love fruit around here. In fact, we can’t get enough of it! The opportunity to have organic produce delivered right to our door was definitely appealing! When we opened up, it was pure excitement!
GrubMarket Logo
Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”): Many thanks to Propeller Consulting, LLC for providing this prize for the giveaway. Choice of winners and opinions are 100% my own and NOT influenced by monetary compensation. I did receive a sample of the product in exchange for this GrubMarket review and post.
About GrubMarket
GrubMarket is all about providing accessibility to the 99%. They offer organic produce shipped right to your door! Many food delivery services and premier grocers cater to high-income earners, but they want to make sure fresh food is available to all consumers, so they keep their prices consistently lower than all the comparable grocers.
Of course, they also offer convenience. Not all areas have access to fresh produce offered at farmer’s markets and fresh grocery stores. They offer shipment to these areas and across the US and even free shipping on orders over $59. More people get to eat and discover fresh produce while supporting small farmers that may have a hard time getting their produce on shelves!
Seriously, what an awesome service, right?

GrubMarket Review

For my review I received a regular-size California Fruit Bounty box. As I said, we were super excited!
GrubMarket Review
What an assortment! Of course, there were some fruits that are grown locally here in Ohio, but there were quite a few that aren’t! It was so neat to receive produce from another state that is actually fresh from their local farmers. Knowing where our fruit comes from is a big deal, and being able to experience these different fruits right here where we are is wonderful!
So what should we do with all this great fruit? Well, the apples were gone before I could even come up with a fun idea because our kids just LOVE apples. Actually, we all do! So I went back to the drawing board and decided to start with what I *thought* were small oranges or clementines. I went to peel it and red juice comes out. I was shocked! I had to cut it open and see what this was all about!
GrubMarket Review Blood Orange
So, of course, I had to look more into it. I discovered it’s a Blood Orange and they are, of course, grown in California. This just shows GrubMarket is doing exactly what they intend to do by allowing families to experience different produce! I did also discover they can be grown in Texas, but we never ran across them when we lived there, and I definitely haven’t seen them here in Ohio! At that point, I just had to eat it to experience the flavor! Ha! Luckily there was another one, so I could encourage the kids to try it out as well!
GrubMarket Review Trying a Blood Orange
They really had to think about it and analyze it. They ultimately decided it tastes mostly like a “regular orange” and think it’s really neat that they’re red. What a fun experience!
Overall, I feel GrubMarket really does deliver! They offer a great service, and I love that it’s available to so many people. The fruits were wonderful, and we definitely were excited to experience fruits we have never tried before as well as a couple of our favorites! It felt good to know it is supporting small farmers as well!

Add Flavor with a Monthly Spice Subscription Box

December 28, 2015 by Emilee Evans

When it comes to flavor, we love it in this house! Of course, I’m particular with the spices I choose. I like to mix it up and love spices that are freshly ground. To receive a regular spice subscription box sounded fantastic, but when I learned more about them, it was even better!
RawSpiceBar Spice Subscription Box
Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate my review. Regardless, all opinions are my own.
RawSpiceBar is a monthly spice box that includes 3 freshly ground, high quality spices from around the world. Each kit has a regional theme. If you’re like me and like to learn more about the regions from where the products come, you’ll be excited to know that included is more information on the cuisine encouraged by the box. Additionally, on that paper it includes kitchen-tested global recipes that need a few additional ingredients, of course!
For my review I will be receiving a 6 month subscription to Raw Spice Bar. I had the chance to review both the November and December boxes.

November Spice Subscription Box

RawSpiceBar Monthly Spice Subscription Box
The November RawSpiceBar Spice Subscription Box included spices from Ethiopia. I was excited to see they partnered with a Ugandan based innovative farming business that has helped to lift over 5,000 rural women out of poverty through farming. I love that! Of course, I also loved learning more about the Ethiopian cuisine.
The spices included:

  • Berbere: Noted to be the most famous spice blend of Ethiopian cuisine and is a complex spice
  • Pumpkin Pie Spice: Its main ingredients are high quality cinnamon, allspice and star anise
  • Ethiopian Mitmita: Noted to be the 2nd most famous spice, it’s a hot spice blend

There were three included recipes, but unfortunately since we haven’t been home much over the last month, I haven’t had a chance to try the recipes, but I opened and sampled all the spices and added them to sealed containers after. The Pumpkin Pie Spice was definitely my favorite, and I added some to my coffee as well. I am a huge pumpkin fan, so that was no surprise. I just love how fresh the spices smelled. It far surpasses store bought spices!

December Spice Subscription Box

Spice Subscription Box RawSpiceBar
The December RawSpiceBar Spice Subscription Box included spices used in traditional Nordic meals. I definitely knew nothing of the Norway Cuisine, so it was extra special to learn about their holiday meals.
The spices included:

  • Winter Herbs: It is noted to add flavor to meats
  • Gravlax Spices: This is noted to be Europe’s oldest condiment with a peppery, earthy flavor that is even a little citrusy
  • Gingerbread Spices: This Gingerbread Spice is noted balance warm & spicy flavors with cool, citrusy flavors

It, of course, also included three recipes. Again, I opened and sampled each and was impressed with all. The Gingerbread Spices definitely reminded me of the holidays, and I’m excited to try the Pepparkakor (Nordic Ginger Cookies).
Overall, I think RawSpiceBar is a fantastic spice subscription box. For only $6/month you can freshly ground spices from around the world delivered to your door with recipes for each spice! Beyond that, you get to learn the culture of that area as well!
