When I was contacted by Real Kids Shades I was very impressed by the information provided. It was a wake-up call for me as well. I have to admit we weren’t having the kids wear sunglasses all the time like they should, and when I read about quality I knew FOR SURE they definitely weren’t of the quality needed to truly protect their eyes. With my poor family eye history, we really can’t afford to take chances. When they shared how sunglasses are often viewed as toys rather than an important part of protection, I realized that more fully. I see how they are displayed in stores with characters that appeal to kids, and I know how easily they scratch and break because we would go through 2-3 pairs each spring and summer. Here was a scary fact they shared:
“The truth is, wearing cheap toy sunglasses can actually do more harm to a child’s eyes than not wearing anything at all. Shaded lenses without 100% UV-A/UV-B protection will relax pupils, causing them to dilate and let MORE harmful radiation into children’s eyes.”
That is a scary thought. I know for our own sunglasses we always look for quality, so why not for theirs? Because we’re afraid they will be broken? I know that was our personal fear combined with well, they won’t wear them since they have sensory issues. I’m happy to report we haven’t had an issue with either! They were excited to put them on and model them right away!
When I received the package with the Real Kids Shades the first thing I noticed was the bright colors and quality packaging. They are packaged individually in a re-usable pouch with a clip! Our 3 and 5 year old both received a pair of Flex Shades in pink for our daughter and blue for our sun. The Flex Shades come with a removable strap. Surprisingly, Aurora liked to have the strap on. The Flex Shades are REALLY flexible and durable, so I wasn’t constantly afraid they were going to break. Chaz preferred to wear his without the strap, but he wore them without any complaints. That is very unlike him as he generally doesn’t like to wear anything on his face, so I am glad they were so comfortable for him! Both of them really enjoy their Flex Shades and continue to wear them consistently!
Brayden received the Blade. Wow, did he think they were the coolest sunglasses ever! He was SO excited! He still can’t stop talking about how cool his new sunglasses are! They are also durable, and the lenses are shatterproof and impact resistant. They have a wrap around design, which I’ve noticed helps them stay on better and he doesn’t fidget with them like he has with others in the past. He is definitely very happy with his sunglasses and wears them consistently.

. At a discount, mind you. As soon as it arrived the mail carrier stated how obnoxiously heavy the box was. HaHa. It weighs in at about 60 pounds, which really isn’t that bad. I was surprised at how sturdy it was. I was able to carry our Air Walker Bounce Castle around back to set it up with ease.
