June 4, 2013 by Emilee Evans

Schoolhouse Magazine
As always, I love sharing a reminder when the new issue of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine comes out! If you are a homeschooler it is such a valuable resource – and it’s FREE! You can also read it on your smart phone or tablet with their app!
I have to admit I was a little MORE excited than usual! Why? My Adventus MusIQ Homeschool Review can be found on Page 147! As you know, I am blessed to be part of the Schoolhouse Review Crew, and I am honored that one of my reviews is featured in this month’s issue of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine. One day I hope to broaden my horizons as a writer, so this is also very encouraging for me as well!
But back to June’s issue! June’s issue is full of some amazing articles! There are some great topics covered, as always, so be sure to check it out! There is always something for everyone no matter your homeschooling style, ages of your children, etc. You will definitely find something you’ll enjoy!

As homeschool parents we know there is a lot of valuable information to be found on the web, but we also know how valuable time is! I know I don’t have a lot of time to search for things particularly when I need them! Isn’t that how it always seems to work? There are many times I see my fellow homeschool parents sharing this or that they found and I think how do they have time to find so many things? Well, let me introduce you to SchoolhouseLibrary.net from The Old Schoolhouse Magazine – SchoolhouseTeachers.com. The Old Schoolhouse Magazine and SchoolhouseTeachers.com are both valuable homeschooling resources, and I am definitely excited to see this new addition!
Schoolhouse Library
For just a one-time purchase of only $25 you will get access to this library which contains over 175 E-Books or audio books for homeschool support and encouragement from many popular homeschool publishers. Here is a look at a some of the resources to which you’ll have access:

  • 2 Study Guides from YWAM
  • Draw Write Now Sampler E-Book by Barker Creek
  • Heroines of the Past-Victorian unit study from Amy Puetz
  • Map Trek: Atlas and Outline Maps of World History from Knowledge Quest
  • Teaching Writing E-Book from WriteShop
  • 15 audio E-Books from My Audio School in history and literature
  • A Glimpse at Carnivorous Plants Lapbook from In the Hands of a Child
  • Video from Jessica Hulcy on  “Learning as a Family”
  • From Frazzled to Focused: 7 Planning Tools for Busy Moms from Mary Jo Tate

Disclaimer: I will receive the Schoolhouse Library free of charge for posting this to my blog. As a member of The Old Schoolhouse Review Crew, I was not required to blog about this, however I chose to because I feel it is a great deal and wanted to share it with all of my readers.

The Old Schoolhouse Magazine Review – November Issue

November 17, 2012 by Emilee Evans

homeschool magazine
The Old Schoolhouse Magazine offers a free monthly publication for homeschool families. It is a valuable resource for homeschool families that can be accessed online or through your tablet or smart phone. When I first discovered I could access it on my iPad as well, I was very excited because there are many times I’m not able to get to my computer and wish I had something more “productive” to do on my iPad, and I feel like this fits that need!
I recently read The Old Schoolhouse Magazine’s November Issue and I immediately read something that spoke to me. It was one of those “wow, I’m not alone” moments, and that’s why I feel it’s important to connect to other homeschooling families because we AREN’T alone! “It’s Time to Wake Up!” is one of those articles I feel like was written just for me! I have often been feeling like I’m just going through the motions and just trying to take everything in strides. I think it can be easy to fall into that rut, and I found this article to be a helpful reminder and encouragement. God is mighty AND merciful! I love that this came just at the time I needed this reminder!
Another article that really spoke to me was “Refuse to Be a Victim: Avoid the Self-Pity Trap.” I think when things are tough it is easy to fall into this trap. Sometimes it’s hard to see all the blessings you have when others around you have “more.” My husband and I were just talking about this subject last week and talking about our “human state” of thinking and how you could easily fall into that trap. We feel so blessed we have each other to talk about those things because we encourage each other! This article added to my encouragement. I love how it encourages you to use what you have and let God handle the rest because that is exactly what it’s all about! This quote really stuck out for me: “Don’t lie against the truth of God’s promised provision. You have every single thing you need today, in your hands, for successfully parenting world-changers.” Wow. That is now on our refrigerator!
There are many other great topics and articles in The November issue of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine such as: a discussion on courtesy, a chore list that really works, homeschooling a struggling learner, ways to simplify your life,
music, poetry, and so much more! It covers important homeschooling issues from character building, to organizing and scheduling your day, to a variety of homeschool styles, different age ranges, special needs, and more. Another of my favorite sections was “Educating with Toys,” which I know I’ve shared on numerous occasions the benefits our children, personally, experience when learning through play. There is something for everyone no matter how old your children are, what style of homeschooling you prefer, what topics you cover, etc. There was even an article sharing information on free music software! Whether you’re looking for encouragement, learning ideas, or a little of everything I definitely recommend reading The Old Schoolhouse Magazine’s November Issue.

Every issue of The Old Schoolhouse magazine is free and can be accessed at The Old Schoolhouse magazine website. It is also available through their free apps at The Old Schoolhouse to Go.
