Travel More with IHG Rewards

June 9, 2015 by Emilee Evans

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of IHG Rewards Club for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

If you’re like our family, you love to travel! The costs of traveling with a family of 5, though, can quickly add up! Now that we have moved up to Ohio, getting to the beach, which is one of our favorite activities, means more travel! That’s why I’m excited for IHG Rewards, which is an amazing rewards program that allows you to earn great rewards and even share them with friends! Who doesn’t want to earn rewards for going to the beach?

Beach Vacation

So now the question is – which beach? We haven’t decided yet, but I know we can’t wait to head to the beach soon and enjoy some great time in the sun! Now that I’ve signed up for IHG Rewards, I can choose one of the great IHG hotels, so I can earn rewards while making great family memories! Then I can share our rewards with one of our moms so they can join us for great trips, too!

We love beach trips because it’s fun for the whole family. We always enjoy flying kites, but we also like making sand castles, go swimming, and even shop at the local shops. Plus, as a homeschooling mom, I’m always on the lookout for educational opportunities, and the beach offers them as well! Search for shells or even sea creatures and learn more about them! The possibilities are endless!

Houston Vacation Highlights

August 30, 2013 by Emilee Evans

There were different posts for our awesome 4th of July mini vacation to Houston, but I wanted to share a wrap-up so you can see just how much you can enjoy in a few days in Houston!
Right now it’s about a 3 hour drive for us to visit Houston, so we left here on July 4th just before noon and arrived at the perfect time to check in at Hotel Sorella. It was pretty easy to find even though we didn’t know where it was before we took this trip. We also got a great parking spot in the parking garage.

Courtyard View

We saw Studio Movie Grill was in the same parking garage, which was on our list! I guess we wouldn’t have a hard time finding it when we were ready to go there! We didn’t have time that evening, though, because we had dinner reservations at The Bistro and, of course, would be watching fireworks that evening! We had a wonderful dinner, and they were so accommodating!

We went back to our room to get ready to go out to the fireworks, but our youngest ended up totally crashing out. Luckily, though, we had an amazing view right from our room! It worked out perfectly! We didn’t have to deal with the crowds and still had a great view! I’m glad we stayed in our room.
The next morning we were ready to put our CityPASS to use! First we wanted to grab a bite to eat, though, because we missed breakfast. So we headed over to SmashBurger. It was our first time at a Smashburger, and they were so friendly and helpful! Plus the food was fantastic!

Once we had full bellies we were ready to go!
We knew we wanted to start at Space Center Houston. I hadn’t been there since before I was a teen, so I couldn’t wait to go again. Wow, has it changed! We really had a great time, and the kids LOVED the Space Angry Birds Matrix! It was REALLY crowded being a holiday weekend, so we enjoyed a few great highlights and were ready to head on to the next adventure!
Space Center
Next, we went to Kemah Boardwalk which holds great memories for my husband and me. We used to go there frequently before we were married. It was such a great experience seeing it from the eyes of a family perspective. They have so many fun things for the kids to do that I didn’t even know were there! We rode a few fun rides and, of course, went on the train. Our little guy slept through the whole train ride! We used the Cool Zone for breaks to stay cool and headed out around dinner time.
Kemah Boardwalk
We knew we had time left to visit the Downtown Aquarium as it is open fairly late. So, we went there next after grabbing dinner to go. We enjoyed looking at all the aquatic creatures as well as the white tiger and parrot. We also got to pet the stingrays, which the kids thought was really neat! We passed on the rides since we had just ridden a few rides at Kemah Boardwalk. It was a nice way to wind down.
Aquarium
The next day was our last day in Houston, and we had to make the 3 hour drive back home, so our time was limited. We didn’t get to do anything else on the CityPASS unfortunately. We did start with breakfast at the hotel before checking out. Then, the kids enjoyed some time running in the Plaza until our brunch reservations at Straits. We opted to sit outside and enjoy the nice day while we ate. It was so nice! Brunch was great, too!
Straits
After that it was time to head to Studio Movie Grill for Despicable Me 2. It was almost sold out already when we got there, but luckily there were 5 seats in a row left near the front. So, we snatched them up and waited to be seated. This was a new experience for all of us! We loved it! We didn’t order more than just popcorn and drinks since we just came from brunch, but it was so neat not having to wait in line to get them! The movie was great, too!
Studio Movie Grill
We sure felt like we did a lot in just a few days, and the kids had so much fun! They’ve been stir crazy ever since! haha Have you ever been to Houston? What are your favorite highlights?
Here is slideshow of our trip! If you are unable to see it you can also view the full photo album.

Weekly Wrap-up: Woo hoo!

July 7, 2013 by Emilee Evans

Weekly Wrap-Up

Clearly it was an exciting week. And clearly I need to change my “Weekly Wrap-Up” button and various other graphics that match my old theme and not the new one! I couldn’t possibly post a weekly wrap-up good enough to cover just the last few days. The good news is – I don’t have to! If you were following along on Facebook or Twitter you probably got a great look at our adventures for the 4th of July weekend! I will also be posting reviews of all the great places we visited! We had an amazing time and got to meet many of the other Go Houston! Travel Bloggers. We got to watch the fireworks from our room, which was definitely a plus because our little guy fell asleep before they started! He slept through a train ride, too! I guess it was all just too much fun for him!

So although I have many, many things I could write about, I’m keeping this wrap-up short and sweet because I have many other behind the scenes things I need to do such as writing up the reviews for the amazing adventures we had, other posts I need to write up, getting back into our routine tomorrow, etc. So, here we go!

Highlights in our Life

  • Our oldest son lost one of his top teeth. He lost his two bottom teeth over a year ago. I’m surprised it took so long for the next one to fall out!
  • My husband’s sleep study resulted in his being sent home with different types of masks for a CPAP machine. He has to have them come in to set up the machine itself.
  • The gerbils chewed up their plastic ladder, so my husband made a wire one for them. haha They are getting more and more social with us, and the kids adore them!
  • We took a really amazing vacation and had a great time! 🙂

Homeschool Highlights

  • Our youngest is starting to get more involved again.
  • Otherwise, we had a short homeschool week due to the holiday and vacation, so there really aren’t any highlights.

Blog Highlights

  • I started the Ultimate Blog Challenge. I set some rules for myself and later changed my mind about the rules I set after staying up all night and still not getting enough posts scheduled before we left. I decided reviews most definitely count as content because they really do take a lot of time.
  • I received 4 different packages this week with products to review, and one will have a giveaway!
  • I took a really amazing vacation and had a great time and will be sharing my reviews this week! 🙂

Goals This Week

  • Get everything unpacked and get back into our routine.
  • Post all of the reviews from our trip as well as the other posts I have on my editorial calendar this week and still manage to sleep.
  • Finish unmet goals from last week – Send emails to potential sponsors for the upcoming conferences, and pray about it more; make a decision on this current health issue I’m having; and make a plan for the laundry issue.
  • Set updated health and fitness goals

How was your Independence Day weekend? Did you see fireworks or visit with friends and family?

One More Day!

July 3, 2013 by Emilee Evans

Tomorrow is the day! We will be off on our trip to Houston with the Go Houston! Travel Bloggers. We’re getting everything packed and ready to go so we can leave in the morning. We’ll drop our pup off at our friend’s house and then we’ll be off on our 3-hour drive!
We actually visit Houston fairly regularly since we both have family there, though we usually stay at my grandparents’ lake house on Lake Livingston since there are no dogs there. Then we don’t have to worry about taking our pup with us and upsetting other dogs since some of our family have dogs that don’t always like big dogs. Houston is actually where my husband was born and raised. It’s where I met him when I decided to move there from Ohio for a change of pace. It’s where we got engaged, married, and had our first son. In a few months (or whenever his medical retirement with the military is complete) it’s most likely where we’ll be living again!
*Flash-back photo: Here we are right after we got married!*
married
The fun thing is, the kids will get to experience some of the best attractions and entertainment in Houston this weekend that they’ve never experienced. Actually, there are many I and even my husband haven’t experienced! So, we are beyond excited to take a vacation “home” and share it with our kids and experience even more of what Houston has to offer!
I can’t wait to watch the CityCentre fireworks from our beautiful Hotel Sorella. I can’t wait for all the wonderful food, movie, attractions, and more! If you’re not already following me via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram – I will be sharing our trip along the way. I will be posting reviews shortly after the trip! I can’t wait to share!
What are your plans for the holiday weekend?
