How We're Staying Hydrated this Summer

June 20, 2016 by Emilee Evans

Happy first day of summer! Can you believe it? Not much changes for us as far as routine as we’re year round homeschoolers, but we love to take our learning outdoors! What better way to learn about nature than exploring it firsthand right? It surely got hot quickly, though. It was over 90 degrees today – here in Ohio! Phew! I thought we left temps that high behind when we moved up here from Texas!
Heat alone doesn’t stop us, but dehydration can! It’s easy to get dehydrated when you’re learning, working and playing out in the heat! All of us! Whether we’re exploring on a walk, working in the garden, fishing, or running around on the playground I know how important it is that we all stay hydrated.
How We're Staying Hydrated this Summer
Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate my post and review. Regardless, all opinions are my own and those of my family.
I don’t know about you, but I’m not the best at drinking enough water. In fact, I’d even say the kids do a better job! What if we could benefit from something more or even crave a little flavor, though? Oxylent offers the perfect solution for summer hydration and more! They offer various multi-vitamin drinks that really pack a nutritious punch in addition to staying hydrated! With no nasty chemicals, it’s the perfect addition to any water bottle!
Oxylent makes staying hydrated enjoyable and fun for the whole family. It has an effervescent delivery system that offers greater and faster absorption than pills, and who doesn’t love a fizzy drink? There is something for everyone! Oxylent is available in Adult, Sport, Prenatal and Children’s. There are convenient sachets for on-the-go and canisters to keep handy at home. It goes beyond hydration with the added benefit of an all-around multivitamin, mineral, antioxidant, amino acid and electrolyte formula. They contain no sugar, caffeine or anything artificial. Sounds perfect for those long days outside, right?
We had the opportunity to add a variety of Oxylent products to our routine to help us stay hydrated this summer including:

  • Oxylent Canister – A premium daily multivitamin that is a natural energy drink.
  • Sport Oxylent – A 3-in-1 comprehensive support formula that is ideal for the natural athlete.
  • Children’s Oxylent – A premium daily children’s multi-vitamin that can help to boost kids’ immunity and support children’s learning. Plus it contains a better form or iron.
  • Oxylent Multivitamin – the same great formula as the Oxylent Canister but in convenient sachets.

Our Routine for Staying Hydrated

I’ve had the opportunity to review Children’s Oxylent in the past, and when I thought of how much the kids enjoy adding it to their water, and the extra boost they would get in addition to the hydration it just made sense to me! I love that there are great options for my husband and I as well. Here is how we’re staying hydrated this summer:
Drinking more than the minimal recommended amount of fluids. When we’re outside, regardless of our activities, we’re likely to sweat more. This can take an extra toll on your body, so it’s important to be sure you’re getting more than enough fluids.
Replenishing electrolyte loss. Because sweating causes electrolyte loss, it’s important to replace those electrolytes if you’ve been sweating quite a bit. Oxylent replenishes electrolytes without all the questionable ingredients in many of the alternatives.
Pacing ourselves. This is true in both our activities as well as our fluid intake. It’s especially easy for kids to run and play hard while hardly drinking the whole time and then drink way too much at once. The result? They get sick, and then their bodies take a harder hit! We stress the importance of drinking fluids throughout the day regularly – even stopping multiple times while playing. We make sure to do this as well!
Drinking before we’re thirsty. You know the old saying “If you’re already thirsty, you’ve waited too long.” Well, it’s true. If you’re out in the sun and are at that point, you are going to experience a big energy zap. It’s another great reason to drink continuously throughout the day!
Giving our bodies the nutrients they need. Having fun outside in the heat requires proper hydration as well as proper nutrients. We need to keep our bodies fueled, so we can make the most of our time outdoors! Oxylent can give us that boost of nutrition we need as well so we can function at our best!
Oxylent Sport
Maybe you’re like me, and you’re not a big “water drinker.” Finding something with a flavor you enjoy that has all these amazing benefits as well is a great solution! I simply take a sachet with me when we’re headed out the door to add to my water bottle or add some from the canister at home. Our kids actually ask for their Oxylent everyday, so I don’t even have to nag them to get them to drink their fluids and get their vitamins! Oxylent has definitely been a great addition to our routine for staying hydrated!

Balance Bar Summer Shape Up

July 7, 2015 by Emilee Evans

I don’t know about you, but when Summer finally arrives, I am ready for some times outdoors! I am in an overall better mood, and I find I exercise more as well because I’m just feeling better! When I’m on the go, though, I’m also more prone to snacking or turning to convenience foods. That’s why I love that Balance Bar offers their bare bars, which are a perfect, healthy snack on the go!
At the end of May I shared the Balance Project, and a majority of those who commented (it actually might be all) said they don’t feel balanced. Now that summer is here, things may be looking up, and Balance Bar is heading the way to help us feel more balanced along with the help of Gabby Reece.
According to a recent survey by Balance Bar, 43% of Americans feel most balanced during the summer! Summer is the perfect time to get outside, enjoy the beautiful weather and start feeling more balanced.
Balance Bar Summer Shape Up
Disclosure: I received complimentary products in exchange for this post and promotion. Regardless, all opinions are my own.
Here are some of Gabby Reece’s tips for smart eating and staying active that help her feel more balanced. Give them a try and make your way toward feeling balanced!

  • Make it your own: There is not one right way to get it done. There is the right way that works for you. When it comes to eating healthy, find the foods you like and implement those into your daily diet. The same goes for exercise. If you hate the gym then find something outside that is manageable for you. This is not about torture; this is about creating a lifestyle that you can do week after week.
  • Watch the calendar: Use summer for motivation to shape up but don’t wait for June 21st. If you wait until summer actually starts, you’ll feel rushed and end up crash dieting or doing a crazy workout schedule. I personally like to keep a calendar in my kitchen and cross off the days as I countdown to bikini weather. The visual reminder – right where you eat – is helpful in keeping you on track.
  • Sign up a friend: We tend to be more successful at accomplishing some type of exercise if we have an accountability partner. Solicit a friend and maybe use this as your time to connect. You can train for a 5k together or join an outdoor boot camp; there are a lot more options now that the weather is improving.
  • Plan to snack: Take snacks (like fruit, nuts or a Balance Bar®) wherever you go to prevent mindless eating. If I have an afternoon or early evening workout planned, I make sure to have one of these handy an hour or so before so that I have plenty of energy to get in a good workout.
  • Variety is key: Make as many meals as you can at home so you can control your nutrition. These are some of my favorite recipes – fresh and full of veggies for springtime! To keep things interesting and fresh at my house, I try to rotate foods. One night I may go for something heavier with veggies and grains, and then the next night focus on proteins. I really try to change up the food and create a great deal of variety.
  • Each day is a new chance and it’s never too late: If you fall out of your summer shape up routine one day, don’t sweat it. Forgive yourself and move on – and just keep moving!

Great tips, right? I know I’m getting closer to feeling balanced and can’t wait to try her tips as well!
