As you may have seen on my Facebook Page, the Army sprung a surprise on us and scheduled the movers to come early (2 days from the day I’m posting this)! It definitely caught me by surprise! I was concerned it may be an awkward time to review a book like Total Home Makeover. Although I haven’t completely been able to read through Total Home Makeover I can say I am actually really excited about the timing! What a blessing that I will be able to move into a new home with these strategies in place!
The details in Total Home Makeover are nothing short of amazing. I am one that really struggles to manage the balance between homeschool, housework, etc. Home management is something I’ve been wanting to improve, and I am excited to put Renee’s 20 day strategies into place as we move into a new home. Talk about renewing my space – it’s getting an overhaul! I can use Phase Three (Transform Your Home) to actually plan and organize each room as we move in! Talk about getting a great start!
It even has a space to write down items you no longer need. Although we originally planned on parting with these items prior to moving, the movers coming earlier than expected made this impossible, so I’ll be taking advantage of this as well as I unpack items!
I love that Renee breaks up everything into different phases starting from transforming yourself. I think it’s so easy to just want to jump right in to the home stuff and just as easy to fall off track because you haven’t yet formed good self habits. I absolutely love that she includes scripture and prayer throughout everything because we do need that daily renewal, and so often when we get busy we put off that time with God that is SO important!
Total Home Makeover is so much more than just organization strategies – it is everything from self to family to your home. It takes you through daily habits like meal planning, chores, daily routines, errands laundry, etc. to planning according to priority to making over and organizing your home. The details and information included are just phenomenal. There are even worksheets you can use within the book or you could easily reproduce in means of your choice. I, personally, love using Evernote for everything, and the lists could easily be reproduced in Evernote!

I am so in need of all parts of the kit, but the finance kit and chore chart kit are the two parts I’m MOST excited about. I have really wanted to do a 10-10-80 budget, but just can’t wrap my mind around how to do it.
The meal plan kit is the one I would most benefit from! As a single mom of a disabled child who lives on food stamps and is self-employed that would be the one I need the most help with 🙂
The chore chart kit — that’s a continual battle around our house.
The Fridge File kit and the Education Kit look like things I could implement immediately.
I think that the Fridge File kit would be helpful to me. I’m sure the book mentions this, but don’t tackle the house, tackle a room. Don’t tackle a room, tackle a dresser. Don’t tackle a dresser, tackle a drawer. I know that when you move, you will want to do everything right away because it’s all right there & needs to be organized. But as you know, eventually it gets wearing if we are still stumbling over boxes because we want to get it done right. Take your time. Set a timer for 15 minutes & challenge yourself & the kids if they are old enough. When you beat the clock on a small project & have time, set it again. Your kids might even want to help because you look like you are having fun. I am learning these tips from Get Organized Now, the blog of Maria Garcia. She has a free 21 day boot camp on video I am watching online.
Ah, those are good tips for unpacking! Thanks!
Finance Kit.
I like the Meal Planning Kit, the most. It would really make my life easier. Help planning out meals and buying what I need.
I am most excited about the Meal Plan Kit with the 5 steps to budget meals.
I think I would get the most use out of the meal plan kit and chore chart kit 🙂
I like that it includes entertaining ideas and finance tips.
I would like the hostess Kit most.
Sounds like it would be SO helpful….I’m so interested in the chore chart kit!
I find the finance kit most exciting!
The aspect I find most exciting is the Meal Plan Kit.
