TruKid Review

March 18, 2014 by Emilee Evans

Disclosure: I received the products mentioned to facilitate my TruKid review. Regardless, I only recommend products I feel would be good for my readers. All opinions are my own and those of my family. This post contains affiliate links. Please see my Disclosure Policy for more information.
TruKid Review
As an eco-conscious consumer, I am careful about the products I choose for our family. Something that has always been challenging is sunscreen. Even when most people are still holding on to winter (sorry!) we’re moving into Spring and have already been out on the jet skis and the boat. Sunscreen is SO important. Since my husband is a 2x cancer survivor, we are also cautious about sun exposure and using sunscreen consistently. What are we to do when so many sunscreens also have nasty chemicals that are risky as well?
That is why I was excited for the chance to review TruKid products. Not only do they offer all-natural sunscreen, they offer a whole line of products that are all natural, eczema-safe, mineral based and non toxic. They are also Pediatrician and Dermatologist tested. Plus I know I don’t have to worry about parabens and phthalates and other harmful ingredients. They are gluten-free as well! I can also appreciate that they are biodegradable, and the bottles are BPA-free.
For my review I received the Sunny Days SPF 30+ Sunscreen and Hero Stick.

Sunny Days SPF 30+ Sunscreen

Not only is the Sunny Days Sunscreen all natural, but it has a broad spectrum SPF of 30+, which is definitely what we personally prefer. Because it’s natural and also non-irritating, I can feel good about using it on the kids every day. It has a nice, light scent and a thicker consistency, which helps me (as well as the kids) see where we have put it before we rub it in completely. It rubs in nicely, and doesn’t bother any of their sensory concerns like some lotions do. If lotions are particularly thin or greasy, our younger two children in particular will complain. The Sunny Days Sunscreen, though, rubbed in nicely and didn’t leave a greasy feeling.

I also like that my husband can use this sunscreen as well. He does have to be careful about sun exposure, but he’s also very cautious of the chemicals in products. The TruKid Sunny Days Sunscreen is a sunscreen we not only feel good about using for our kids but for him as well!

Hero Stick

The TruKid Hero Stick is an easily portable all natural “boo boo” stick. It has been said many call it “Mom’s Kiss in a Stick.” The Hero Stick can be used on boo boos, bug bites, eczema, and rashes. I have also used it on areas our youngest was complaining of being itchy, and it has helped his itchies, too! This is fantastic because he often feels itchy. Mostly this is because of his sensory sensitivities, so it is so nice to have something he feels is soothing that I can also take with us!

Between the three kids, there are also a lot of cuts and scrapes around here, and the Hero Stick really does come in handy! Just swipe it over the boo boo and they’re ready to play again! Sometimes I think they even make up boo boos just to have an excuse to be “treated.” The good news is, with natural ingredients, I feel OK about using it often!
I even use it on my own scrapes and bug bites. I actually react dramatically to bug bites. It doesn’t take long until a basic mosquito bite is really swollen. As long as I keep the itching under control, I can keep it from getting too out of control. The Hero Stick really does soothe my bug bites, which keeps them from flaring up dramatically. It’s definitely something we will always keep on hand!
Overall, I’m really excited that TruKid offers so many products that are safe for the whole family. I’m glad we’re protected from the sun without compromising ingredients in the products and that we have a go-to remedy for boo boos and itchies that can go anywhere with us easily!
TruKid also offers great resources and fun activities for kids like earn a star checklists for using sunscreen regularly on their website!

Sunscreen is quite possibly THE worst thing trying to find that doesn’t contain a mess of nasty chemicals. We may have to try this one out this summer. I tried making my own last year and it was super greasy from the oil in it. Blegh!

This looks like a really good product for someone who has sensitive skin or doesn’t want to have chemicals and all that awful stuff they put into items anymore. Its hard to find one that doesn’t have them. Sounds like a great product!

I love the fact the products are eco friendly and good for sensitive skin. My grandson much like his mother has very sensitive skin and this would be great for him
