Learning Ohio History and Facts the Fun Way! {By the Way Book Series Review}

March 2, 2017 by Emilee Evans

Although I was born and raised in Ohio I always find myself learning something new. That was most definitely the case as I read Ohio ~ Here We Come! from By the Way Book Series with the kids as well. Truth be told, I’ve generally not been all that excited about teaching History as it isn’t my forte, but I can’t believe how much we’ve learned about Ohio history and facts while having fun!
Nature Books With A Biblical Worldview {By the Way Book Series Reviews}
By the Way Book Series offers a variety of Children’s Nature Books with a Biblical World View and Values. Author, Joy Budensiek learned most Christian parents don’t actually talk to their children about God and spiritual matters. She started writing this series to help provide talking points for parent and children interaction. She has made sure to include regular references to scripture throughout the books. She has a goal to write 100 books including one book for each of our 50 states as well as different areas worldwide.
Each book follows adventures of a family with children named Alex and Lexi. In the Ohio ~ Here We Come! book, the family is driving from their home state of Pennsylvania to their aunt and uncle’s farm in Ohio. What I found most unique about the book is that it is written in a fun, story-like setting yet filled with SO many facts! I truly did learn quite a few things about my own state and it really kept all three kids engaged! Plus, throughout the story there are also “Spot It” type pictures the kids can find, which they loved. So here we are all sitting together learning all these amazing facts about Ohio and truly having fun while doing so!
Ohio History
At first, I wasn’t sure if reviewing the Ohio book was the best option since we actually live here. I was definitely curious about it, though, and on top of that, I am required to teach Ohio history. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, though. Is it more of a story or would I truly be teaching something? Would it count as “history” or just some fun nature facts? It went beyond that, though. It covers a lot of amazing facts from both the history of Ohio as well as present day. It isn’t just nature, either, though they do spend quite a bit of time talking about God’s wonderful creation.
In fact, I loved all the references to scripture. It didn’t feel forced or unnatural. It flowed very well with the story and helped us relate every day experiences with specific scripture. It made us consider many different things in regards to God’s creation. We learned about the state bird, things that are found outdoors in Ohio, farming, animals, etc., but we also learned about famous Ohioans, Native American tribes, aeronautics and so much more. Everyone’s favorite topic was dairy farms just because the kids know how much I love cows!
Learning Ohio History with By the Way Book Series
The book is broken down into topics and “Did you know?” boxes for detailed, individual facts. It is by no means a book that is too long to read in one sitting, but I really wanted to make sure the kids had a chance to let what they were learning soak in. So, I would sit down with all three of them at once and read four pages from the book. We would do this every other day or every day until we got through the book. After each sitting, we’d talk more about what we learned. I would add my own personal experiences if I had any, which made it personal as well, which was nice. It was fairly easy to break down the book in this way because each “topic” is generally covered in the two pages that are open together. It was great family time, too!

Learning Ohio History in a Fun Way

I am really glad we had the opportunity to review the Ohio ~ Here We Come! book. We did learn more about God’s creation in nature but really learned about Ohio History, in general, as well! It was a great way to learn about our home state, but I definitely would love to check out some of the other books to learn about other states as well! I think the one we’d most like to read next is the Smoky Mountains ~ Here We Come! book.

Celebrating Breakfast Month is Fun with Krusteaz

February 23, 2017 by Emilee Evans

Did you know February is National Hot Breakfast Month? Awesome, right? I don’t know about you, but we love breakfast foods in our house! A great way to ease the challenge of putting dinner on the table every night is to serve breakfast for dinner once a week. It can be a lot of fun, too!
Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate my post. Regardless, opinions are my own and those of my family. This post contains affiliate links. Please refer to my Disclosure Policy for more information.
I received an amazing package thanks to Krusteaz to share how we do breakfast night. We got to try a variety of their delicious breakfast mixes including: Buttermilk Pancake Mix, Belgian Waffle Mix, Blueberry Pancake Mix, Wild Blueberry Muffin Mix, and Cinnamon Swirl Crumb Cake & Muffin Mix. Additionally I received a whisk, pancake molds, a tote bag, pancake batter pen, a T-fal Non-Stick Fry Pan, and a selfie stick so I could document our fun!
Breakfast Night Fun with Krusteaz
Talk about the tools needed to facilitate an epic Breakfast Night, right? As a family of four with two that don’t eat very much, clearly we couldn’t use it all in one night, but we were excited for a Breakfast Night with some delicious pancakes and eggs in fun shapes! Of course, it isn’t breakfast without bacon and sausage, too!
This was my first time trying Krusteaz pancake mixes and the first time using pancake molds as well! On the package for the molds it also said egg molds, so I figured why not? My older two kids love their eggs over easy, but I sometimes have challenges making them. I thought the molds might not only be fun but helpful as well! So we decided to make it a night full of shapes and fun!
Celebrating Breakfast Month with Krusteaz
We made both Buttermilk and Blueberry pancakes in all of the shapes. I loved how easy it was to prepare the mixes. I just had to add water and mix it with the whisk quickly and it was ready. It was the perfect consistency after just a few whisks. And so, it was time to whip up some pancakes in a variety of shapes.
Breakfast Month with Krusteaz
Between the pancake batter pen, the molds, and the Krusteaz pancake mix, it was never easier to make the perfect pancakes. To top it off, the T-fal Non-Stick Fry Pan made it easy to flip them as well so the shapes weren’t compromised!
Fun for Breakfast Month
It took me a few tries to get the eggs exactly right, but none of them were ruined! I think the most impressive plate was Aurora’s plate full of love!
We Love Breakfast Night

Celebrating National Hot Breakfast Month with a Fun Breakfast Night

The most fun, though, was making memories with the kids. We all had fun participating in Breakfast Night, and we got a delicious reward. My youngest son (also my pickiest eater) said they were the best pancakes he’s ever had! It was definitely a winning kind of night! We got to enjoy an awesome Breakfast Night to celebrate National Hot Breakfast Month! How will you be celebrating?

Natural Dental Care with Himalaya Botanique

December 14, 2016 by Emilee Evans

Probably one of the biggest challenges I have as someone who prefers natural products is finding natural dental care products. From wasteful plastic toothbrushes to toothpaste with questionable ingredients, it’s hard to sort through it all and find the ideal products! That is why I was excited to try the natural dental products
offered by Himalaya Herbal Healthcare.
Disclosure: I received this product for free from Moms Meet, May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are my own.
For my review I received a variety of products from Himalaya Herbal Healthcare – namely a variety of Himalaya Botanique toothpaste as well as a bamboo toothbrush, a sari bag and personal care bag.
Natural Dental Care with Himalaya Botanique
For one, I was impressed that they offer so many varieties of their Himalaya Botanique toothpaste. One of the biggest challenges I have found is I may find a natural toothpaste I like but it’s only available in one or two varieties. The varieties I received to review include: the Complete Care toothpaste in Simply Spearmint, Simply Peppermint, Simply Cinnamon, and Simply Mint as well as the Whitening Complete Care Toothpaste in Simply Mint and Simply Peppermint. They offer basic varieties as well as the whitening toothpaste, which I think is unique. Whitening naturally? Yes, with pineapple and papaya enzymes!
Of course, the biggest thing I appreciate is they don’t have all the questionable ingredients I try to avoid. There is no fluoride, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Carrageenan. They are also gluten-free as well. These ingredients are common in many toothpastes. Despite not having SLS, I found they all still “foam” a little bit. You really only need to use a little bit. It does go a long way!
They really have cleaning power, too! My mouth feels so refreshed afterwards! Unfortunately, two of my three children are sensitive to what they call “spicy” toothpaste, which essentially just means they are minty. My 9 year old daughter also loves this toothpaste, though, and often mentions how her teeth and mouth feel so much cleaner after brushing as well.
Himalaya Herbal Healthcare also put a lot of thought into their packaging. The toothpaste packaging is made with 100% recycled material and is printed with soy based inks.
Eco friendly packaging
Overall, I love what Himalaya Herbal Healthcare offers. I love that they offer such a great variety of natural dental products. Even better is that they are effective!
