This is Not a Test (TobyMac's New CD – Review)

August 7, 2015 by Emilee Evans

I am a huge fan of TobyMac – not only his music but the positive messages he shares on social media regularly as well. “Speak Life” is not only a song that resonates with so many readers, but it’s a message to live by. When I had the opportunity to review TobyMac’s new CD I was so excited!

About TOBYMAC:

Toby McKeehan (known professionally as TobyMac) is a husband, father, performer, songwriter, producer, and businessman. Growing up in the northern Virginia suburbs adjacent to Washington D.C. helped instill his love for rap music. While attending Liberty University during the mid 80s, Toby met Michael Tait and Kevin Max Smith and these three friends formed the Grammy winning, platinum selling group dc Talk. Toby began his solo career in 1999 with his first solo album, Momentum, releasing in 2001. Momentum has been followed by four additional studio albums, Welcome to Diverse City (2004), Portable Sounds (2007), Tonight(2010), and Eye On It (2012), along with his first live album, Alive and Transported (2008). This Is Not A Test is his 6th studio album to be released. Starting with dc Talk, and then going solo when the group disbanded, Toby still clings to such rootsy notions as hard work, persistence, patience, and – perhaps most relevant of all – the power of music, which he insists is still what keeps him going. “It’s the truth,” he says. “I still believe that a song can penetrate a heart. I believe God can use a song to open someone’s mind and heart.”

For my review I received the mp3 download of the This is Not a Test Album. I think one of my favorite things about TobyMac’s music is that his songs are always so upbeat and always have powerful messages. I absolutely agree with him about the power of music. I’ve been having a few hard days lately due to my health issues, and playing this album not only helped cheer me up, but I truly feel like it helps me bring my attitude to the place it needs to be and focus back on God rather than my problems.
I am definitely loving the This is Not a Test album. I just love that it is so positive and upbeat, and it makes for great working or workout music. Positive music always helps inspire me when I’m doing housework and when I’m working out as well. It helps me to remember why I do things that may be challenging for me. It is overall a great CD with positive messages and upbeat songs.

Worshipful Songs of Gratitude and Hope {Plumb – Exhale Review}

May 13, 2015 by Emilee Evans

Music is so powerful. Whether I’m in a positive mood and ready for worship or having a hard day and need to refocus and be encouraged, I find music is my go-to. It’s my form of expression, encouragement, and worship. So I definitely jumped at the chance to review Plumb’s newest album – Exhale.

I have been jamming to Plumb’s Song “Lord I’m Ready Now” since I first heard it on the Christian radio stations. I love it! It is a song of true heart – a movement from brokenness to healing. I’ve been there, and this song expresses it so well! I love singing along with it!
After receiving the Exhale CD for review, I realized I have heard a few of her other songs as well. I’m not sure if they are played on the radio as well or I have just heard them somewhere else, but all of the songs have a great, heartfelt message and great music! Plumb has an amazing voice, and I just love how much heart she put into this album. It truly is an amazing expression and beautiful music you can really just put your heart into as well and sing along with. It’s been a while since I last got a physical CD, and I was excited to see the lyrics printed out! That is something I always loved about CD’s, and was so excited to see it!
More About Plumb and Exhale:

About PLUMB:
Tiffany Arbuckle Lee, better-known by her stage name Plumb, is a songwriter, recording artist, performer and author. Plumb has sold more than 500,000 albums and over two million singles worldwide, co-penned songs for numerous other artists, including Michelle Branch, Mandisa, Mandy Moore, Jaci Velasquez, and Natalie Grant, and had music placed in many films and television shows.Originally signed as a Christian Contemporary Music (CCM) recording artist in 1997, Plumb is now known as well as or better in alternative rock, electronic dance music, and for the use of her music in film and television than she is in the CCM market.
About the album:
EXHALE, the seventh studio album from acclaimed multi-genre singer, songwriter and author PLUMB, expresses a new focus and vision. After the runaway success of NEED YOU NOW (the album, title track and book), which coincided with her own moving story of brokenness and ultimately healing, Exhale brims with worshipful songs of gratitude and hope.
The defining concept of EXHALE was born from a sermon at Plumb’s home church, wherein her pastor Pete Wilson expressed the notion that the Church doesn’t exist for itself. Rather, believers come to church to breathe in grace and truth, be changed, and then go out and “exhale” that hope into their surrounding community.
