GIANTmicrobes Review

October 28, 2013 by Emilee Evans

Disclosure: I received the product mentioned to facilitate my review. Regardless, I only recommend products I feel would benefit my readers. All opinions are my own and those of my family.
GIANTmicrobes
GIANTmicrobes are stuffed animals that look like various microbes except they are MUCH bigger (like a MILLION times bigger!). Each GIANTmicrobes not only looks like the microbe it represents, but it also comes with a picture and information about the microbe! Talk about unique, fun, AND educational! Have you ever received a gift like it?
We chose to review the cancer cell. As you may know, my husband is a 2x cancer survivor, and our kids were still very young when he was ill. It’s hard to explain such an illness to young children, and we really saw A LOT of educational value in GIANTmicrobes. Not only did the cancer cell come with the picture of real cancer cells and information (which makes a great science lesson!), but we really LOVE that it can be flipped inside out to a healthy cell again!
GIANTmicrobes
This has a fun factor in itself because toys that do unique things are fun in general, but again, there is also an educational factor because we could explain that my husband’s cells are all like the white “happy cell” (they call the white cell the “happy cell,” and the cancer cell the “sad cell,” which seems pretty fitting! haha) now, and that helps them to understand why everything is OK now! Who knew such a unique toy could provide such education, fun, and even reassurance?
Plus, it really does make a fun toy! They love to flip it over and over again and make fun noises and act out different personalities of the cells when they do so!
I am definitely adding more GIANTmicrobes to our Christmas list (and my Holiday Gift Guide, so stay tuned!). I LOVE toys with such educational value, and I love that I can add a science lesson into our homeschooling day, too, to complement the microbe! Of course, you don’t have to home school to appreciate these cute and fun toys as well as their educational value!
