Disclosure: I received a small bar of soap to facilitate my Grandma’s Lye Soap review. Regardless, all opinions are my own.
As you know, I am very cautious of the ingredients in our products. Bath and body care products, in particular, are some of the biggest offenders when it comes to containing chemicals, so I’m definitely cautious about what I use. When I was contacted by Grandma’s Lye Soap to review their all-natural lye soap, I knew it was something I wanted to try!
Grandma’s Lye Soap is all about sharing what NOT in their soap! It is just pure soap. It doesn’t contain any detergent, dyes, or those tricky fragrances. In fact, there are only three ingredients: Food Grade Lard, Lye & Water. That’s it! So you can plainly see there aren’t any ingredients you can’t pronounce or even any ingredients you don’t know. They really do keep it simple. In eco-friendly living, it’s always nice to find products that are natural and simple!
For my review I received a small bar of the original Grandma’s Lye Soap. It makes note that this is mild lye soap for bathing, and not the strong lye soap for laundry.
Because Grandma’s Lye Soap is pure and natural it has nothing in it that will irritate the skin, which is good for me because my skin can be picky. Sometimes it’s not sensitive at all, but other times it will randomly break out. I also fight with acne/blemishes, and the wrong kind of products can make it worse.
Grandma’s Lye Soap definitely didn’t irritate my skin. It is very pleasant to use in that it has no overwhelming fragrance and glides on the skin nicely. In fact, it actually doesn’t have any type of fragrance. Generally even fragrance free products have a type of natural scent, but Grandma’s Lye Soap really is without any noticeable scent for me. My husband couldn’t notice a scent either. It doesn’t “suds up,” like some soaps, but that isn’t too uncommon with natural soaps, and I still didn’t feel like I had to use a lot to compensate for it. I still used the same amount I would use with any bar soap. It does leave the skin feeling refreshed smooth.

This sounds really good, my whole family has sensitive skin so we have to watch all of our detergents and soaps even fabric softeners. I will be buying some of this to try out!
This does sound super pure. I use Kiss My Face soap with olive oil or Kirk’s castile soap, but the Kirk’s can be very drying. My hands were so dry and painful this winter that I couldn’t use the Kirk’s. Kiss My Face is much more moisturizing with the olive oil. I’m curious now to see how Grandma’s Lye soap would work out!
