Janet’s Planet Exploring Microgravity DVD has fun and engaging content it’s great for a variety of ages! From Janet Ivey of Janet’s Planet:
“For the past decade, science education has been my passion and America’s children have been my inspiration. It is incredible to see how excited children can become about the world around them when the information is presented in an accessible and fun way. That is the mission of Janet’s Planet, and I look forward to continuing to support better science education in the years to come.”
I could really tell in the Exploring Microgravity DVD how much she enjoys sharing her love of science! Our kids are ages 6, 5, and 2, and none of them have a very long attention span. I wasn’t sure how much of the DVD we’d get through on the first view, but we made it through all of it! The kids really enjoyed watching and learning about gravity and microgravity in the fun, quirky way Janet presents it. They were even asking me questions to make sure they were understanding everything! Our kids are very visual, so I can’t imagine they’d take it in the same any other way, but with such a fun, visual presentation it really had them intrigued. In fact, they both asked me if they can go in a space ship! I have to admit, I actually learned a lot through Exploring Microgravity as well. I have often heard the term “zero gravity,” and honestly believed it to be what it is. Who knew there really is no such thing as zero gravity because there is always at least a teeny tiny bit of gravity? I love moments like that when I learn along with the kids!
I really appreciated parts of the lesson where they asked kids answers to questions because not all of them got the answers right the first time. Our kids are often so consumed with making mistakes that sometimes they don’t answer at all, so I love that it also presented a moment they could relate to where their answers were close but not quite right – and that is OK! They were able to laugh WITH them and realize mistakes are normal! It’s a lot to learn, and repetition is key! So she then goes over the questions again with the correct answers! I felt like Janet not only had a love of science but also really understands kids! She has a really fun personality and attitude, and I think that really keeps the kids interested! They definitely weren’t at all bored, which is wonderful particularly for their young age! I also don’t feel like it is something that would be too “kiddish” for older kids, either, because it is definitely presented in a fun, exciting way but not in a way that it is tailored just for young kids. Overall, we really enjoyed Janet’s Planet Exploring Microgravity!
