Well, I did it! After tossing around the idea of getting a curriculum this year or just making my own, I decided to get a curriculum! Talk about a last-minute decision! I wasn’t feeling well again today (it’s a medication issue I hope will be fixed early next week!), I ended up just resting for my birthday. When dinner time rolled around I decided I wanted to get dinner out. While being out for dinner I decided I wanted to get the My Father’s World curriculum because it’s a budget friendly curriculum, and I have heard great things from other homeschoolers with younger age children. So we headed up to Mardel Β in Waco. Yes, it’s about an hour drive, and yes, it was already 7pm! Did I mention last minute? I knew we’d be busy tomorrow plus I wanted to have the whole weekend to get everything ready so we could start on Monday – despite having 3 different Dr appointments! I really feel this is a wonderful option for our family because I really am a person that likes to have plans, and a curriculum like this was a great way to have plans without the worry of making them myself. I think given that I’ll already be working around therapy appointments, a possible move by the end of the year, etc. this was the way to go, and I’m really excited about it! I still plan on doing a few of our own things, of course, and our daughter (Kindergarten) will still be on “my” curriculum, but I have to say I feel SO much better about starting on Monday now! I think I like organization so much that the fact of not having the school year already completely planned was getting to me! Stress averted! π

I also love that I have friends who can deal with my last minute madness! I was so happy my friend Stacey who lives up there met me there after my random text saying I was on my way up there and would be there in an hour! And she even waited for me when I realized mooselion didn’t Even have pants on, so we had to buy him some! Wow! Did I mention it was a random decision? Haha
If you homeschool – do you use a curriculum? If so, what do you use? If not, please share your experiences as well! I LOVE to learn more about other homeschooling families! π

Oh my, I can’t imagine having to come up with my own curriculum. I teach middle school but only have each class for 70 minutes.

Congrats on finding a curriculum! When we first started homeschooling in 2005, I started out just using workbooks and piecing things together. That didn’t work well for me. So I tried a complete, boxed curriculum. That didn’t work either, lol. We eventually found Time4Learning (www.time4learning.com). It was a good fit, and we’ve stuck with it for about 5 1/2 years so far!
We are computer junkies, so most of our supplements are online as well. Our favorites are Vocabulary Spelling City (www.spellingcity.com) and Learning Games for Kids (www.learninggamesforkids.com).
Again, congrats. And good luck! π

Sounds like a terrific curriculum! We don’t have children (yet, still hopeful), but when we do… I would love to home school!
I use My Father’s World home school curriculum. There are many good ones out there. A lot just depends on what you are looking for…what your needs and abilities are and such. I like the lesson plans and how they have already done so much research and picked things for a reason, not just put something together. I like how the Bible is used throughout, without teaching from the Bible…they leave it up to the parent to teach it. I also really like the missions focus. I’m not worried about academic achievement. I find that is more dependent on the parents and everyday life than on some curriculum. The curriculum just helps facilitate a well rounded core to provide a good environment for learning and less work/planning on the teacher.
Thanks for sharing!!
Would love to know how My Father’s World is working for your family. We’re using it too, well, some of it. Stopping by from the TOS blog linky,

We love it! The way it is laid out, I feel, provides both structure AND a little bit of freedom, which I really enjoy! It gives suggested additions to the curriculum, but that is where we use our own ideas instead so it can really work for our family! It’s been perfect for us!
My oldest is four and a half. I’ve been looking into different curriculum options for kindergarten. There’s so much out there, though, that I feel a little overwhelmed! She’s already reading and writing and adding, but I’d really like to have everything organized and laid out; otherwise, I’m afraid I’d miss something!
Understandable! I’ve heard great things about My Father’s World Kindergarten Curriculum, too!
I didn’t realize you were using My Father’s World. We are using the Kindergarten level right now and I am loving it. Though we are only on the 6th unit and I don’t foresee us going any faster now that I am on the Crew. I have been thinking of stretching it to two years and starting 1st grade in 2014.
Yeah, I understand that! We fell a little behind, too, but we’ll still finish on time I hope!
we have decided to do homeschooling next year and hoping to find the right program to follow as well.
